A new open-world survival shooter is almost here, and it could just be the fun blend of Fallout and Minecraft that we didn't even know we needed. If you're a fan of fast-paced combat with survival aspects that you can play either by yourself or with friends, this is a game you'll want to put on your wishlist. Whether you prefer working on constructing your perfect shelter or going out and slaughtering mutated enemies, it's certain to keep you busy.
While we're all waiting with bated breath for Fallout 5 to come out, other developers are busy working on games like the upcoming The Apocalypse, which is coming soon to Steam. With a low-poly, Minecraft-like art style and a post-apocalyptic world where survival itself is a challenge with changing radiation levels, The Apocalypse combines many beloved gameplay mechanics into one exciting game.
The Apocalypse Is A New, Upcoming Survival RPG
Coming Soon To Early Access On Steam
Of course, The Apocalypse has a lot more going for it than just a fun art style and setting. Developer Team APOCA describes it as a survival experience with an expansive open world of diverse biomes where players can reveal the secrets behind the apocalypse. You'll scavenge for supplies to help survive the harsh world while watching your hunger, thirst, and even radiation levels.
Unfortunate mutants and infected zombies roam the world, so players will need to use crafting abilities to make weapons ranging from primitive bows to rocket launchers and turrets to protect themselves. Land, sea, and air vehicles can be repaired and used not only to make things easier, but also could end up creating some high-speed chase situations.
Sadly, The Apocalypse isn't quite out yet. Still in development with no official release date, it is planned to launch in early access first so that the community can help give feedback. A recent developer note states that they are working on the full-process demo and will share more information when they can.
It Looks Like Fallout And Minecraft Had A Baby
The Low-Poly Sandbox Survival Shooter Is Post-Apocalyptic
Fans of building their own little world can work to build a safe shelter, complete with electrical equipment and furnishings. This is where it may come in handy to take advantage of the online co-op capabilities of the game, working together to create the best refuge possible.
The art style of The Apocalypse works to its advantage by making the devastated and dark world even more visually striking and feel even harsher as you see scattered building debris and mutated humans coming for you.
Eventually, developers plan to add mod support and fun game modes, which could help make The Apocalypse something you'll want to come back to over and over.
