Rumors of an official Fallout 3 next-gen remaster have been circulating for years now, but in recent weeks, hype has gone stratospheric after a mysterious countdown timer appeared on an official Fallout website connected to the Amazon television series. While that countdown rumor hasn't panned out as hoped, the official launch window for the Fallout 3 remaster has fans at odds.
According to a document circulating regarding Bethesda's slate of new releases (via Reddit), some fans believe Fallout 3 Remastered will almost certainly launch this year based on the timing of other major releases, such as the recent Oblivion remaster. However, some fans are on the other side of the fence, and many aren't convinced the remaster is going to happen at all.
Fallout 3's Remaster May Yet Be Real
A Fallout 3 remaster is among the most-requested projects among fans of the franchise, though there are quite a few others on that list as well, such as a Fallout: New Vegas remaster and the highly anticipated next mainline entry, Fallout 5. Fallout 3 was the first game in the franchise from Bethesda, and it has since become the gold standard of Fallout games from the studio.
Rumors of a remaster have been circulating for some time now, and many fans were extremely hopeful they'd get a shadow drop after this season's finale of Amazon Prime's Fallout show, which ultimately didn't pan out. The recent fervor was largely related to a "mysterious" countdown timer on the Fallout Amazon show website, which had fans hoping for a release after the finale aired last night.
Fans have recently resurfaced an old document from Microsoft that reportedly details various releases from Bethesda, though the document's legitimacy has been called into question over the years and most of the listed release windows are off by about two or so years.
Based on certain games that did actually release from this list, players speculate that the Fallout 3 remaster should technically be slated for launch this year, despite hopes being dashed recently. bringerofthelaw420 argues that players "will get a trailer or a shadow drop very soon" based on the fact the remaster was reportedly originally planned to launch two years ago.
That said, the Fallout 3 remaster has never been confirmed by Bethesda to even be in development in the first place, and there's nothing but rumors to go on in terms of its possible release date.
Fallout Fans Are Keeping The Faith
While it's been a long road for Fallout 3 fans keeping their fingers crossed for a remaster, they're apparently still remaining hopeful even after the most recent disappointing news. The mysterious countdown timer that sparked the recent wave of speculation turned out to be a teaser for a virtual tour of House's Lucky 38 suite overlooking New Vegas in the Amazon series, which was... underwhelming for fans, to say the least.
It's unclear if players will actually get a Fallout 3 remaster anytime soon, but fans will certainly be keeping an eye on Bethesda for possible announcements or shadow drops in the coming months. It wouldn't be entirely unprecedented, with Oblivion's remaster dropping last summer out of nowhere. Here's hoping this summer might bring a similar surprise for Fallout 3 fans.
