The original film was based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel of the same name, following Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), a journalism graduate who moved to New York City and lands a very demanding job as junior assistant to Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly, editor-in-chief of Runway, a high-fashion magazine.

Yes, Disney announced that production had begun on the film at the end of June 2025. Anne Hathaway shared a first look at her return to the character of Andy Sachs July 21.

Deadline exclusively broke the news of Simone Ashley’s casting in the second film. Variety exclusively reported the casting of Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak and Pauline Chalamet.
Deadline also exclusively reported that Rachel Bloom and Patrick Brammall have joined the sequel. Tracie Thoms and Tibor Feldman will also reprise their roles from the original.
