The Civilization series is a classic for many, and Sid Meier's Civilization 7 is set to continue that long legacy. With a release date of February 11, 2025, anyone looking to lock in a copy of the game at launch might be thinking about preordering the game soon. Three digital options available for preorder provide different perks, but deciding between them can be difficult, as publisher 2K Games hasn't yet revealed every detail about what will be included.
Across every edition, Civilization 7 brings a variety of new features to the table while maintaining many of the classic staples of the series. The game introduces new features like ‘personas,’ which display the various goals and personalities of leaders, and the ability to select a new civilization in each new age. Gwendoline Christie will voice the main in-game narrator, marking the first time a woman has taken on this major role in the series.
How Much Civ 7's Founders Edition Costs
The Price Varies Across Platforms
Civilization 7 has three digital versions available for preorder, and the most expensive of the three is the Founders Edition. Interestingly, the price of the Founders Edition isn't the same on every platform, with a $10 difference between the edition on the Nintendo Switch and all other platforms. On PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, it sells for $129.99, whereas on the Nintendo eShop, it is priced at $119.99, both without tax.

10 Biggest Changes Between Civilization 7 & Civilization 6
Gamescom 2024 gives more information on Civ 7 to the general public, but there are quite a few more differences between its predecessor than shown.
This approach carries across editions, as the Deluxe and Standard editions feature the same price gap on Nintendo Switch. There's no official explanation of the gap in pricing, but it could be due to reduced graphics quality in order for it to run on the device. Regardless of the platform, the Founders Edition offers a substantial amount of additional content, setting it apart from the other available editions and justifying its current price point as the highest digital tier. The Founders Edition also features a 5-day early access period, which the Deluxe Edition shares.
Staggered pricing tiers are nothing new for the Civilization series, although the Founders Edition is more ambitious than previous digital deluxe releases. It's also a limited-time offering, as the Founders Edition will be removed from sale on February 28, 2025. Consequently, there's no hope of a price drop in its future, although the bulk of the included DLC could later go on individual discounts.
All In-Game Items & Add-Ons In The Founders Edition
Is The Price Tag Worth The Purchase?
The Civilization 7 Founders Edition adds a lot of in-game bonuses, some of which should be substantial content additions to the game. The biggest feature lies in extra civilizations and leaders, some of which are shared with the $89.99 Deluxe Edition. The Tecumseh and Shawnee Pack adds the Shawnee civilization and its leader, which should be available at launch, while the Crossroads of the World Collection and the Right to Rule Collection will add more substantial post-launch content.

Forget The Civilization 7 City Conquering Change, One Other Update Is Much More Troubling
Sid Meier's Civilization 7 has dramatically changed the progression of ages, throwing aside the natural growth of a single culture.
Both of the post-launch collections are set to include two leaders, four civilizations, four wonders, a cosmetic bonus, and more. Crossroads of the World is also featured in the Deluxe Edition, while Right to Rule is only a bonus in the Founders Edition. The schedule of post-launch content isn't yet set in stone, but the Right to Rule Collection is planned to be made available by September 2025.
Other in-game additions focus more on cosmetics and smaller content differences. The Deluxe Content Pack and Founders Content Pack each include two leader personas and four profile customizations. The Deluxe pack adds an alternate scout skin as the cherry on top, while the Founders pack adds a fog of war tile set and a Founders palace skin.
Everything In The Founders Edition
What To Expect With This Edition
Unfortunately, 2K Games has not disclosed specifics yet about all the additional content, but only a rough guideline for the extent of the items that players can expect to receive when purchasing the Founders Edition. While the game is set to have 31 civilizations at launch, not all have yet been revealed. Moreover, one collection is only available with the Founders version so far, and will only be available in advance when it releases in September. This specific edition appeals to members of Civilization’s dedicated long-term fanbase who want to experience the game to its fullest.

Controversial Civilization 7 Change Sparks Petition & Points To A Disturbing Gaming Trend
Civilization 7 brings some exciting new ideas to the table, but one controversial change follows a trend that doesn't have any real upsides.
In the meantime, while the game launches fully in February, buyers of the Founders Edition won’t get its main content until the fall. For anyone who would prefer physical collectibles to digital rewards, opting for a physical Collector's Edition provides an ornate "Passage of Time" clock along with other bonuses, with the major caveat that the game itself isn't included. That being said, these are all the exact items that come with the pack, with all the information that is available for now.
Early Access | Play the game up to 5 days early before February 6, 2025. |
The Tecumseh & Shawnee Pack | Including the leader, Tecumseh, and his civilization, the Shawnee. |
Exclusive Content Pack | 2 leader personas, 4 profile customizations (new outfits and background for an existing leader, plus an alternate agenda), 1 fog of war tile set, 1 Founders palace. |
Exclusive DLC | 2 leader personas, 4 profile customizations, and 1 alternate scout skin. |
Crossroads of the World Collection | 2 leaders, 4 civilizations, 4 wonders, a cosmetic bonus, and more to be announced. |
The Right to Rule Collection | 6 more DLCs that will release in September, for both the public and Founders Edition owners, including 2 leaders, 4 civilizations, 4 wonders, a cosmetic bonus, and more to be revealed. |
While 2K Games continues to keep many things under wrap, the Founders Edition stands as a comprehensive package for longtime fans who would like to have the full experience. At a $130 price point, it's an undeniably premium option, so waiting on DLC purchases is a completely reasonable approach. For the truly dedicated, however, Civilization 7's Founders Edition is the way to get both the game and all possible digital extras at launch.
