Met Gala 2026 Dress Code Revealed
Don't blame E! for taking a trip down Met Gala memory lane.
With hours to go before the 2026 event—set to be co-chaired by Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Vogue's Anna Wintour—some of the most iconic Met Gala looks of all time are being revisited, including those worn by Taylor Swift on the steps of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
Indeed, the "Bejeweled" singer made the whole place shimmer during her Met Gala debut in May 2008, arriving on the red carpet in a golden Badgley Mischka design that honored the night's "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy" theme. (At the time, Taylor was 18 years old, just meeting the Met Gala's minimum age requirement.)
Two years later, in May 2010, Taylor returned to fashion's biggest night in an ethereal Ralph Lauren dress, following the Met Gala's nod to "American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity."
An edgier turn came in 2011, when Taylor donned an ensemble by J. Mendel.
"We have an ongoing dialogue with Taylor Swift," the brand's CEO Gilles Mendel told The Hollywood Reporter in October 2012." For such a young lady to have such a great sense of what she wants to wear is unusual. I’m very excited to be part of the process."
Taylor worked with the fashion house once again for the Met Gala's "Punk: Chaos to Couture" theme in 2013.
And in May 2014, Taylor returned to the Met Gala ready to deliver another memorable look—a pretty in pink Oscar de la Renta dress. It was a design that almost didn't make it to the event.
"That moment when your cat casually walks up," Taylor wrote on X, formerly Twitter, at the time, "then abruptly ATTACKS your custom satin Oscar de la Renta gown during your fitting for Met Ball."
Luckily, Taylor, her dress and her trendsetting red lipstick made it out unscathed, leading to a jaw-dropping Met Gala moment.

But Taylor reserved her mic-drop Met Gala look for 2016, when she was a co-chair of the event, showing up in an out-of-this-world Louis Vuitton ensemble, paired with her bleached blonde hair.
"Futuristic gladiator robot," she told André Leon Talley on Vogue's carpet livestream. "It's what I want."
Before the May 4 red carpet begins, take a getaway car to Taylor's Met Gala fashion.
