Despite its PG-13 rating, the new Street Fighter reboot movie is surprisingly bloody. There’s a branding, several beat downs that leave iconic characters like Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) and Ryu (Andrew Koji) bloodied and bruised, and a number of cartoonish electrocutions as a start. And the Street Fighter kill count is higher than you might expect for a movie aimed at a pretty broad audience.

The 1994 Street Fighter mostly kills unnamed soldier mooks and scientists, but Raul Julia’s iconic M Bison dies on screen (though it doesn’t last), and Vega, Dhalsim, and Blanka all die when the villain’s fortress blows up. That, too, was given a PG-13 rating, and is a lot more cartoon-like than the superior 2026 Street Fighter reboot. Both, for their perceived faults, are fun, with the new version adding a delightful self-awareness that gives it more room to be silly.

Unlike last year's Mortal Kombat 2, which killed multiple main characters, Street Fighter is more sparing with its deaths, but they all serve a narrative purpose. Here’s everyone who dies in the new Street Fighter, who kills them, and how good each death is.

5 Blanka's Prisoners

Jason Momoa as Blanka breaking through a wall in Street Fighter 2026

There will be a lot said about Jason Momoa’s gonzo take on Blanka as more people see Street Fighter. He looks the part, but his dialog is a choice, and the frequent armpit scratch-and-sniff gimmick is just one of a long line of odd fetishes someone on the writing team had obvious difficulty suppressing. He’s also a legitimate threat: despite showing NEITHER of his most famous signature moves (the infuriating Electric Thunder and the iconic Head Bite - though it’s mentioned), he kills at least two prisoners. The first is one of his chaperons, who is killed through an electric shock (but one distinctly different from the crouching Electric Thunder), and another dies when Blanka electrifies the fence he’s touching. Minor characters, but fun kills.

4 M Bison's 2 Scientists

Street Fighter Movie (2026) M. Bison

M. Bison’s quest to attain maximum Psycho Power leads to frustration when his energy-draining technology comes up short before he escalates his quest to capture Ryu and use his Hado power instead. As a result of those failures, he kills two of his own scientists: one by squashing his skull in his hands (which he seems sexually aroused by - mark another fetish off), and then another through electrocution with his Psycho Power. This is as close as we get to him fighting anyone: hopefully, the sequel delivers more.

3 Chun-Li's Father

Callina Liang's Chun-Li standing resolute in Street Fighter

As in the games, Callina Liang’s Chun-Li is an Interpol agent on a mission of revenge against M. Bison for the death of her father (Dorai, though he’s not named in the movie). One of Street Fighter’s exceptional anime flashbacks reveals that he died at the hands of Dastmalchian’s weirdo villain, setting Chun-Li off on her mission to infiltrate his organization. He’s electrocuted using Bison’s Psycho Power.

2 Master Gouken

Master Gouken in Street Fighter

Master Gouken is a major presence in Street Fighter, despite not really appearing in the live-action segments (other than in a grainy news report in the opening montage, in which he’s played by the MCU’s Gilgamesh, Don Lee). Lee also voices the teacher of Ryu, Ken, and Dan in animated flashback sequences, which reveal that his death was what drove Ken and Ryu apart. His wisdom - both guiding Ken to protect Ryu, and guiding Ryu away from the dark side of the Hado power - underpins their arc. He’s killed in a flashback by Roman Reigns’ Akuma, who attempts to goad Ryu into losing himself to the dark side by ripping Gouken’s heart out in front of him.

1 Joe

Akuma fighting Joe in Street Fighter

Diminutive MMA fighter (don’t tell him that I called him that), Alexander Volkanovski plays Joe, Street Fighter’s joke character. Based on the character who was introduced in 1987’s first Street Fighter game as a non-playable fighter, he gets a bye to the final when each of his opponents - first Ryu (who is kidnapped) and then Vega (Orville Peck) - loses by forfeit. In the final, he wins again by forfeit when Ken doesn’t turn up, and Akuma appears to fulfill his prophecy of killing the champion. Unaware of the power of his opponent, Joe makes the poor decision to stand up to him in the ring, and Akuma uses a take on his Raging Demon, plunging his hand into Joe’s abdomen and blasting him to smithereens. His death was actually spoiled in the Street Fighter trailers.

Street Fighter is in theaters worldwide now.
