Ethan Hawke Details Bond With Maya Hawke’s Husband Christian Lee Hutson

Ethan Hawke had great expectations for Maya Hawke’s husband—and luckily, they’ve been exceeded.

Two months after the Great Expectations star and ex-wife Uma Thurman’s eldest daughter tied the knot with husband Christian Lee Hutson, he detailed the “incredible experience” of seeing her walk down the aisle.

“It means a lot because she’s so happy and I love her husband,” Ethan shared in an exclusive E! News interview at the Time100 Gala April 23. “I feel like a really lucky man to watch her be so happy and to know that she’s with somebody that I respect so much.”

Ethan—who is also dad to Levon, 24, with Uma and Clementine, 17, and Indiana, 14, with wife Ryan Hawke—emphasized that seeing the 27-year-old as a newlywed following her Valentine’s Day nuptials “feels great.”

And while The Dead Poets Society star had a blast giving away the bride at the star-studded wedding—which also saw Maya’s Stranger Things costars including Finn Wolfhard, Sadie Sink and Joe Keery as guests—he joked that he’s still the most important man in at least one of his daughter’s lives.

“On my way here, my youngest daughter texted me and said, ‘You may be Time100 but you're the number one most influential man in my life,’” Ethan mused. “And I thought, alright. Not very many people would say that but I’m glad one of my kids does.”

Of course, Ethan’s family keeps him humble, too—especially when it comes to sharing the secrets behind his craft.

“My kids, they like to say that they really have heard everything I have to offer, like, seven times or 15 times,” he continued. “They don’t need to hear any more.”

But even for Ethan himself, the validation of the Time100 honor is nothing compared to his passion for acting.

“If you love what you do, it’s infinitely fascinating to you,” he considered, “and all that stuff about evolving happens by itself.”

Indeed, the 55-year-old is only aiming to be as good as his next gig requires, adding, “One lifetime is not enough to be good at this job, so that part is easy for me.”
