Ryan O'Rourke is a Senior News Writer at Collider with a specific interest in all things adult animation, video game adaptations, and the work of Mike Flanagan. He is also an experienced baseball writer with over six years of articles between multiple outlets, most notably FanSided's CubbiesCrib. Whether it's taking in a baseball game, a new season of Futurama or Castlevania: Nocturne, or playing the latest From Software title, he is always finding ways to show his fandom. When it comes to gaming and anything that takes inspiration from it, he is deeply opinionated on what's going on. Outside of entertainment, he's a graduate of Eureka College with a Bachelor's in Communication where he honed his craft as a writer. Between The IV Leader at Illinois Valley Community College and The Pegasus at Eureka, he spent the majority of his college career publishing articles on everything from politics to campus happenings and, of course, entertainment for the student body. Those principles he learned covering the 2020 election, Palestine, and so much more are brought here to Collider, where he has gleefully written on everything from the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes to Nathan Lane baby-birding sewer boys.
Wedding bells are ringing on this week's episode of Elsbeth Season 3, but there won't be a happy ending for the new couple. After taking on a skilled cruciverbalist played by Steve Buscemi and a domineering debutante ball director embodied by J. Smith Cameron, the titular sleuth's (Carrie Preston) next killer case will be that of a serial bride who was found bludgeoned in her apartment. To find a lead, she turns to the bridesmaid and the would-be newlywed's friend, Rachel, who seems suspiciously bitter when it comes to her old bestie. Collider can now exclusively share a new sneak peek set at a private party where Elsbeth brings her suspicions directly to Rachel herself, played by Booksmart star Beanie Feldstein.
Our favorite fabulously-dressed detective isn't doing much to be inconspicuous in the footage. She bursts into the little event, sticking out like a sore thumb in green when everyone and everything is decked out in lemon yellow, and immediately walks right into the middle of the room, where Rachel quickly spots her. She's clearly a little annoyed that Elsbeth is there and even more so when she mentions that none of the girls showed up for her party. When they step aside, though, she admits that she was just embarrassed by what happened, though Elsbeth imagines she'd be furious too, knowing that her friend Kimberly e-mailed all the guests and convinced them to take back their RSVPs. However, that's apparently news to Rachel, who insists on chalking it up to "hurt people hurting people" rather than getting angry.
Everything about Rachel's responses is a bit suspicious, though her behavior only gets more questionable when Elsbeth reveals that the wedding gift Rachel got Kimberly was the one found with blood on it in the dishwasher at the murder scene. Worse, the matching lid was right by Kimberly's body. From the look on her face as Elsbeth gets into detail about the differences in the dishware, which gave it away, she is none too pleased with what the sleuth has already figured out. Feldstein is no stranger to whodunits, having previously played a recurring role in Season 5 of Only Murders in the Building last year, but this time, she's looking like a prime suspect with a personal grudge and a determination to keep her name out of the mud of the case.

Sometimes, spin-offs successfully flesh out smaller characters. Other times, they prove why the smaller characters should have remained small.
'Elsbeth' Season 3's Overarching Story Is Coming to a Head
Elsbeth Season 3's mix of star-studded cases of the week has kept viewers coming back for more ever since a high-profile premiere featuring Stephen Colbert, Amy Sedaris, and Andy Richter as guests. However, there's also been a compelling tale at the heart of it all involving mayoral candidate Alec Bloom (Ivan Hernandez). Thanks to Teddy (Ben Levi Ross), it's been known for some time that something in Alec's backstory on the campaign trail didn't quite add up, and that finally caught up with him when Elsbeth confronted him in last week's episode. Things ended on a cliffhanger with her and Captain Wagner (Wendell Pierce) preparing to watch his televised announcement, unsure if Alec will reveal the truth. Whatever he says is likely to have ripple effects throughout the rest of the season for Elsbeth and the city, though viewers will just have to wait and see what comes next.
Elsbeth Season 3, Episode 15 airs Thursday, April 9 on CBS. Check out our exclusive sneak peek in the player above.
