Just over two years after it was ordered, a very small series is about to sneak onto Peacock. The Miniature Wife premieres on the streaming platform this April, bringing with it a uniquely imbalanced married couple, played by four-time Emmy nominee Elizabeth Banks and two-time Succession Emmy winner Matthew Macfadyen. Based on the — no pun intended — short story by Manuel Gonzales, the dramedy follows said couple through the ultimate relationship crisis, one that won't be fixed by counselling, and will require them to confront their biggest issue. In anticipation of the premiere, we're excited to spotlight the adaptation with a new image of a teenie tiny Banks as part of Collider's Exclusive Preview series for upcoming spring television shows and movies.

The Miniature Wife is indeed very literal, as Banks plays Lindy, who, due to a horrible technological mishap by her scientist partner Les (Macfadyen), is shrunken down to six inches tall. Worse, whenever Les tries to enlarge anything that's been brought down to size, it explodes violently. With no other choice, Lindy is forced to live in a dollhouse indefinitely until a solution can be found. In the meantime, she tries to keep her marriage to Les together, even though the arrangement leaves the power dynamics between them hilariously unbalanced. Think Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, but with the central high-concept predicament used to explore very real relationship drama between a husband and wife. Our exclusive image has a bit of creative fun with what her reduced size means, as it shows her lying in the fake snow of a miniature Christmas village with a wireless earbud next to her like a speaker and her cellphone ringing.

All the tension of the disastrous, potentially life-or-death situation forces Lindy and Les to re-evaluate the power dynamics of their marriage. What starts as a moment of much-needed reflection soon evolves into an all-out war for control in their marriage, as Lindy pushes back against her much, much larger husband. Surrounding Banks and Macfadyen in the comedy-drama is a deep ensemble, including O-T Fagbenle, Zoe Lister-Jones, Sian Clifford, and Sofia Rosinsky, with Ronny Chieng, Aasif Mandvi, Rong Fu, and Tricia Black among the recurring cast members. Both leads are also attached as executive producers.

Goliath and Boardwalk Empire producers Jennifer Ames and Steve Turner reunited to create and showrun The Miniature Wife at Peacock. The series also landed a big name behind the camera — Greg Mottola. Known for helming beloved comedies like Superbad and The Daytrippers, as well as underrated gems like the Jon Hamm-led Confess, Fletch, he brings a steady hand that will look to enhance the comedy part of the comedy-drama. Coming off a strong year that saw the release of hit literature adaptations like Long Bright River and All Her Fault, Peacock is hoping that this team can turn this short story into another big win.

The Miniature Wife premieres on Peacock on April 9. Check out our exclusive new images in the gallery above and stay tuned here at Collider throughout the week for more surprises from our spring preview series.
