An elite Australian athlete has shared the dozens of furious comments she received from men after she dared to critique Sydney Sweeney's racy new ad.

The American actress has faced backlash after appearing completely nude in the commercial for the sports prediction market platform Novig.

Among those who voiced their dissent was Sydney-based triathlon champion Monique Muskens, who this week shared a video on Instagram in which she said she 'hates' the ad.

'Hey, thanks Sydney Sweeney and Novig for sending women back about 300 years.  But it's just sport, right?' she wrote.

Muskens was inundated with angry comments from male social media users after making the post, and shared a number of the most egregious in a follow-up post on Tuesday.

Among the messages were men calling the athlete 'ugly' and a 'jealous b**h', and several questioning her skills as a triathlete.

'You're not an athlete, you're doing it for fun. You still will never be comparable to a man,' wrote one person.

Another said: 'Women's gold medals could have been won by an eighth-grade national champion boy'.

'Calm down big girl,' wrote one person, while another said: 'The uglies are mad again'.

'Is it because you're a butterface?' asked one troll, with one more chiming in: 'With a body and face like yours, I see why.'

Someone else ranted about 'fragile jealous females' and 'feminists' who dislike 'better looking women with great t*ts'.

Muskens explained that while only 10 percent of her usual Instagram audience is made up of women, 90 percent of the comments on her Sydney Sweeney video were made by men, most of whom do not follow her account.

'This social media stuff isn't for the faint of heart,' she added in her Instagram caption.

The athlete's followers were disgusted, but not surprised, by the response she had.

'Another day being a woman on the internet,' wrote one person, while another said: 'Genuinely makes me want to throw up reading those.'

'Wow, those comments were just awful. Thank you for sharing though. It really highlights just how damaging Sydney Sweeney's advert is to women in sport,' one woman commented.

'All of those men are probably sitting on their couch scrolling, and could not catch a ball without it hitting them in the face,' said someone else.

'I'm scrolling and the further I go the madder I get. What the actual f**k is wrong with these people? The denial is crazy and they're so quick to jump and defend the ad just because they get to look at free porn basically,' someone else said.

Another fan wrote: 'You're amazing, I hope my daughters grow up influenced by sports women like you.'

The advertising campaign featuring Euphoria star Sweeney has sparked widespread backlash from female athletes who say it is sexualising women in sports.

In the ad for the sports prediction market platform Novig, Sweeney appears with little or no clothing, covering parts of her body with strategically placed footballs and other sports apparel.

Many female athletes criticised the ad on social media and called it disrespectful to women.

'I can't describe how infuriated I feel when I watch this,' four-time Olympic swimming gold medalist Ariarne Titmus wrote on Instagram.

'How do we live in a world where monetising a woman's body and sexualising women's sport is still a thing?'

British sprinter Amy Hunt addressed the actor in a post-race interview with the BBC  after finishing fourth in the 200 meters at the Ultimate Championship in Budapest, Hungary.

'Sydney Sweeney, this is what women in sport look like,' she said, looking at the camera. 'Muscles, hard work, sweat, blood, tears.'

Former U.S. gymnast Gracie Kramer called the ad infuriating.

'I've spent my entire life competing in a sport where female athletes have been oversexualised, reduced to our bodies, and forced to fight to be taken seriously for what we can actually do,' she said on Instagram.

This is not the first time Sweeney's brand partnerships have ignited debate.

Her 2025 American Eagle campaign, which played on the homophones 'jeans' and 'genes,' previously triggered widespread online discussion and accusations of promoting white supremacy.
