A delightful surprise revealed that The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered will be coming to Nintendo Switch 2. It was the final reveal of February 5's Nintendo Direct, joining Bethesda-published peers Fallout 4 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle in coming to Nintendo's latest platform.

Oblivion Remastered will release for the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026; no exact date has yet been given. Its highly-anticipated release in 2025 for other platforms was an open secret after numerous leaks, but a tight lid this time turned Oblivion Remastered into an unexpected finale for the Direct. The open-world fantasy RPG takes players to the heart of the Tamriel Empire during a saga known as the Oblivion Crisis, where portals to the planes of Oblivion open up throughout the province of Cyrodiil.

Oblivion Remastered is a fairly thorough overhaul of the fourth Elder Scrolls installment, which originally released in 2006. The game's visuals have been translated from its original Gamebryo engine to Unreal Engine 5, retaining gameplay elements and physics from the former. Slight gameplay tweaks have modified how stamina works and ironed out some longstanding issues with Oblivion's leveling system.

This marks the first time Oblivion has been made available on a Nintendo platform. Despite Skyrim coming to the original Switch all the way back in 2017, Oblivion never shared the same widespread popularity, despite many's nostalgia for the original. While a release in 2026 is exciting, it may be a while yet before Oblivion Remastered actually lands on Switch 2 – the lack of a release date indicates it may still be a significant work-in-progress, and could easily be slated for the latter half of the year.
