It is hard to believe that Elden Ring has not yet celebrated its fifth anniversary, especially as it is regarded as a modern-day classic. Considered by many to be FromSoftware's magnum opus, Elden Ring is a 2022 action-adventure RPG by Hidetaka Miyazaki with worldbuilding by author of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R.R. Martin.

Sitting at an 8.4 User Score on Metacritic, Elden Ring is one of the most successful video games of all time, so it is no surprise that fans are eager to see the story continue. However, with Elden Ring joining the likes of Bloodborne in standalone games by FromSoftware, it is unlikely that there will be an Elden Ring 2, especially as the hit RPG has already continued in other ways.

From hit graphic novel series to standalone roguelike, Elden Ring: Nightreign, from an upcoming enhanced edition, Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, to a live-action movie, the Elden Ring IP is more popular than ever, and yet, fans are still feeling hopeful for Elden Ring 2.

However, according to Miyazaki himself, FromSoftware has no plans for Elden Ring 2, but it does still have plenty of other projects in the works.

“We’re not really considering developments such as an Elden Ring 2," Miyazaki said at the PlayStation Partner Awards 2024 Japan Asia. However, he also emphasized the possibility of the Elden Ring IP being extended upon "in some form in the future" (via IGN Japan). Although Miyazaki did not confirm the projects to currently be in development, considering this quote was taken from 2024, we can assume that The Duskbloods could be at least one, but the future is still bright for the Souls genre in general.

Following the news that there are no current developments for Elden Ring 2, fans took to r/pcgaming to share their thoughts. "Sounds good to me," one comment read. "I think they are at their best when they create something fresh and unique. I would love Miyazaki's next game to be something akin to Bloodborne or Sekiro - still based on the same foundation of the Souls formula, but experimenting with the combat and evolving it in a different direction. Also, something more focused and linear will be a nice change of pace from the gargantuan scale of Elden Ring." Another user agreed with this, adding, "I want smaller and higher quality games like Armored Core and Sekiro, so this is good news for me."

However, another user thought differently, commenting, "I want a sequel to Elden Ring and I don’t care what other people think."

As of right now, no sequel for Elden Ring has been announced, but with multiple FromSoftware projects currently in development, we are all in for an exciting time.
