Dungeons & Dragons is the most iconic tabletop game of all time, a fact that was solidified when it served as the inspiration for the live-action fantasy heist comedy Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023). Now, the franchise returns with a brand-new series, and it’s already living up to the movie’s 92% Rotten Tomatoes rating.

Dungeons & Dragons: The Fallbacks is a brand-new comic series by writer Greg Pak and the artistic trio of Wilton Santos, Edvan Alves, and Raúl Angulo. The first issue released on October 15, 2025, and earned a “very positive” 4.0/5 rating on League of Comic Geeks from readers.

This commendable rating means that fans are loving this chaotic and humorous venture into the world of D&D just as much as Honor Among Thieves, which earned a 91% rating from critics and a 92% rating from audiences. Unfortunately, The Fallbacks saw a major delay in the release of issue #2. However, the wait is now almost over, with issues #3 and #4 set to follow shortly after.

If you loved the comedy heist vibes and band of misfit adventurers trope in Honor Among Thieves, then The Fallbacks is a no-brainer when it comes to your next read. This series follows “a party of daring, dubious, and dysfunctional adventurers” known as The Fallbacks, “who arrive in the city of Loudwater in search of gold and glory.”

However, not everything goes as planned, as the synopsis for issue #1 teases that “an encounter with kobold thieves puts the Fallbacks in the crosshairs of a rival team of deeply annoying local heroes. Will the Fallbacks pull off a heist for the ages? Or will they sacrifice it all to put these ‘heroes’ in their place?”

Netflix promises its new Dungeons & Dragons series will dodge the past pitfalls of The Witcher, letting fans breathe a sigh of relief.

Those who have read the now-available first issue know that it’s a wild ride from start to finish, chock-full of hilarity and shenanigans that will undoubtedly feel familiar to anyone who has played the game themselves. Like the party featured in Honor Among Thieves, the protagonists in this series are a band of misfits rather than the realm’s most skilled adventurers.

This makes for an incredibly engaging and entertaining debut issue that also features the must-have heart and world-building that all D&D fans demand. Now, the adventure will continue on March 11 with the release of issue #2, with the final two issues following close behind with April 29 and May 20 release dates lined up.

This series is also perfect for fans of Amazon Prime’s The Legend of Vox Machina, which was based on the legendary American web series Critical Role and allowed the original voice actors to reprise their roles. So if you’re a fan of any of these D&D installments and looking for your next dose of chaotic party shenanigans with a side of world-saving, you won’t want to miss this Dungeons & Dragons series.

Can they fend off the draconic menace before it freezes all of Loudwater? Also, a new challenge arises: the Tournament of Heroes! It’s the perfect opportunity for the Fallbacks to show up Angrilyne’s team, if they can win...
