Mechagodzilla officially returns to fight an out-of-control Godzilla, this time piloted by an unexpected character who may transform the mechanical kaiju into the Earth's ultimate savior. Mechagodzilla is the ultimate answer to Godzilla's chaotic power. The King of the Monsters' mechanical doppelgänger possesses an overwhelming arsenal of high-tech weaponry. In most encounters, this wonder of technology gains a distinct advantage in long-range combat and durability that forces Godzilla into a corner through sheer unrelenting firepower. Mechagodzilla also lacks a nervous system, so he can ignore injuries that would incapacitate most of Godzilla's other classic foes.

Across Godzilla's various eras, Gojira and Mechagodzilla's power dynamic fluctuates based on the mechanical beast's origin. The original 1974 Showa version, uses space titanium and a rotating head to create an impenetrable defense. In contrast, the Heisei era’s Super Mechagodzilla acts as a human-piloted defense system that successfully paralyzes Godzilla by targeting his secondary brain. The Millennium era’s Kiryu introduced a psychological layer by using the bones of the original 1954 Godzilla as a framework. Most recently, the Godzilla vs. Kong iteration utilized a neural link with Ghidorah’s remains to achieve an unprecedented level of speed and brutality.

In every timeline, Mechagodzilla is the one obstacle that consistently pushes Godzilla to the absolute brink, requiring a miracle or an ally to overcome. This is nothing short of a blessing when Godzilla is a full-fledged villain, as is the case in Godzilla: Infinity Roar.

Doctor Doom meets Mechagodzilla in Godzilla Infinity Roar #4

The King of the Monsters continues his rampage across the Marvel Universe in Godzilla: Infinity Roar, helped and enhanced by Knull, king of all symbiotes. Not even the most powerful Marvel characters are safe from Knull and Godzilla, as even the Marvel powerhouses Galactus, Silver Surfer, and Uatu the Watcher are overshadowed by the kaiju and infected by Knull's symbiotes. With most heroes and villains out of the picture, Knull realizes that there's still one survivor who could turn everything around: Doctor Doom.

King of the Monsters — or trampled underfoot?

↻ RISE AGAIN

After witnessing the King of the Monsters slice through virtually every hero, villain, and team in the Marvel Universe, it's up to Victor von Doom to take a solitary stand against Godzilla. Whether this version of Doctor Doom has starred in his own version of events like One World Under Doom is unknown, but it's safe to say that he has achieved similar feats before. Add the fact that singlehandedly saving the universe would be a boon to Doom's ego, and Godzilla: Infinity Roar's reality has earned its last sliver of hope.

Doctor Doom Has Mastered His Ability To Command Others

There's No Better Character To Pilot Mechagodzilla Than Victor Von Doom

Doctor Doom stands next to his dinosaur in Marvel Comics cover

Doctor Doom's mastery of manipulation and control begins with his Doombots, a mechanical legion so perfectly calibrated to his ego that they often behave as independent extensions of his will, even deceiving the world’s greatest telepaths into believing they are the true monarch of Latveria. Doctor Doom's iron-fisted control extends into the most surreal corners of the multiverse. Doom has even claimed a Tyrannosaurus version of himself from a prehistoric reality and subdued the prehistoric beast to serve as his personal steed.

New Images Officially Confirm Godzilla Redesign, With Giant Wolverine Claws

The King of Monsters has an unbelievable new weapon, as fresh images of Godzilla reveal the mighty kaiju is now wielding gigantic Wolverine claws.

Doctor Doom’s superhuman stubbornness allows him to command the remnants of reality itself in Jonathan Hickman's Secret Wars. In the face of total multiversal collapse, Doom overshadows much stronger opponents and claims the title of God Emperor of Battleworld, where he holds absolute sway over a council of Thors, Molecule Man, Doctor Strange, and the Beyonders. Even more so than Iron Man, Forge, or Black Panther, Victor Von Doom's track record makes him the best candidate to command a mechanical kaiju when the fate of the universe is on the line.

Black Panther and the Avengers have already piloted a mecha against this Godzilla in Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe, to disappointing results.

Besides the Knull-infected Godzilla tearing through the cosmos, Doctor Doom also possesses the mental fortitude to withstand the psychic pressure of the symbiote hive mind while simultaneously fighting the King of the Monsters. On Earth-616, Doom has withstood psychic attacks from enemies as powerful as Red Onslaught and Purple Man through his sheer power of will. Against the combined nightmare of the King of the Monsters and the king of the symbiotes, only a man who has already conquered dinosaurs and gods has what it takes to save the world.

Do you think Doctor Doom and Mechagodzilla can defeat Godzilla for good?
