After the success of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Disney+ is reportedly adapting another Rick Riordan book series.
Percy Jackson season 3 premieres on November 20 and by doing so will surpass the movies, of which there were only two. The series has been a major streaming hit for Disney+ and consistently one of the platform's best-performing shows, especially outside the Star Wars and Marvel franchises. With a 95% critics' score and 82% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, it has also been well-received, while both of the films have "Rotten" scores.
Nexus Point News now reports that development of a Disney+ adaptation for Riordan's The Kane Chronicles is moving forward. Riordan and Angela Robinson are reportedly helming the project at 20th Television for Disney+. The series has not been officially announced yet, nor have any details about casting or when the show may premiere.
Plans for The Kane Chronicles trilogy to be adapted into Netflix films were previously scrapped after spending several years in development. In 2024, Riordan shared that the rights had gone back to him after the Netflix development didn't work out, and he and Becky Riordan were looking at other options. They seem to have found their answer as a television adaptation for Disney+ rather than a movie series for Netflix.
