Diane Warren this morning broke her own record for Oscar nominations in the Original Song category, raising her tally to 16. Her latest nomination is for the end credits song “The Journey” from Tyler Perry’s Netflix movie The Six Triple Eight performed by H.E.R.

This also marks Warren’s eighth nomination in the category in a row over the past eight years. Starring Kerry Washington, The Six Triple Eight tells the story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, an all-Black battalion of the US Women’s Army Corps assigned the daunting task of sorting through and delivering thousands of pieces of mail between soldiers and their families during World War II.

Warren also holds a record for 15 nominations and no win in the Original Song category. (She received an honorary Oscar in 2022.) Warren probably hopes that H.E.R.’s luck will rub off on her — H.E.R. has only been nominated once in the category, in 2021, when she won for “Fight For You.”
