Diablo Fans Shouldn't Miss This One
It's One To Look Out For
Planned for release in 2026 by studio Nightless Games, NeverLight features an intriguing visual styleyou can explore with three other people. Following an event where demons have conquered the world, the "last survivors" are tasked with fighting out of the Underworld with a magical relic that can create bouts of daylight.
Here's the full description from Nightless Games: "Cooperative roguelite extraction Action-RPG for 1-4 players. Explore a handcrafted map with randomized rewards, events and quests during daylight, survive demon-infested nights, and extract before darkness returns. Storyline with permanent character progression and base building between runs."
Promising multiple biomes to discover (burned villages, dark forests, swamps, apocalyptic ruins, and caves are teased), you can also come across randomized points of interest while completing missions. A loot system is in, as are "demon patrols," which you'll need to deal with as you're traversing across the overworld.
Over six classes are currently planned, as are skill trees, "diverse weaponry," and roguelight elements. You'll collect up to seven "Sins," which are essentially temporary buffs, as you progress, and after death, you'll lose your sins and your inventory. Thankfully, said inventory can be reclaimed if you find your loot in a future room.
That particular roguelite hangup is a lot easier to swallow if you're coming in with friends, which really makes me want to try this with a group. The mechanic of slowly upgrading your sanctuary hub also appeals to me, with the power to build crafting stations, vendors, and training halls. If you can do this with other people, it could end up being a fun little diversion to all the action.
There's Also A Touch Of Zelda
Exploration is paramount in NeverLight, and it seems like there will be some form of puzzle elements involved, as well as neutral NPCs straight out of a Zelda game. It'll be fascinating to see just how the studio marries all the inspirations it wears on its sleeve.
NeverLight is slated for a 2026 release window, with no month or date set yet. For now, you can check out the Steam listing while we wait for more info.
