Donald Trump once again issued a bellicose warning to Iran, threatening that “a whole civilization will die tonight” if its regime doesn’t agree to a deal to halt or end the war.
Trump posted on Truth Social, “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!”
The president has set an 8 p.m. ET deadline on Tuesday or he has vowed to destroy Iran’s infrastructure, like bridges and power plants. Attacks on civilian targets likely violate the Geneva Convention and are considered war crimes.
Negotiations reportedly are continuing, and there is a possibility that Trump extends the deadline. A key issue is Iran’s control of the Strait of Hormuz, a choke point that has resulted in a spike in oil prices since the war started five weeks ago.
At a press conference on Monday, Trump said that they have a plan “where every bridge in Iran will be decimated by 12 o’clock tomorrow night, where every power plant in Iran will be out of business, burning, exploding and never to be used again. I mean, complete demolition … And it will happen over a period of four hours.”
On Sunday, Easter morning, Trump posted that Tuesday would be “Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the F—–’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah.”
Pakistan reportedly is playing a major role in mediating negotiations between the U.S. and Israel and Iran.
Some of Trump’s highest profile supporters have sharply criticized him for carrying out the war, and his threats since then. In his latest podcast, Tucker Carlson lashed out at Trump’s Easter morning threat against Iran. “On every level it is vile,” he said.
Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene reacted to Trump’s latest Truth Social post, writing on X on Tuesday, “25TH AMENDMENT!!! Not a single bomb has dropped on America. We cannot kill an entire civilization. This is evil and madness.”
