Diablo 4's 'April Fowl's Day' joke is a big chicken boss who drops a cluckton of unique loot, like the 'Cluckonomicon' and the 'Eggcecutioner'

Watch out, Mephisto: A true terror has arrived in Diablo 4 in the form of a giant chicken. It's April Fool's Day (or April Fowl's Day, if you will) and Blizzard has unleashed a new world boss that drops entirely unique, chicken-flavored loot.

I barely missed the window to battle the beast, but players in the official Discord server are posting screenshots of the big chicken boss and the loot it drops. Diablo 4 events are typically just a way to funnel you loads of crafting materials and legendaries as a fun boost to your progression, but this one sidesteps that approach for something far weirder.

Chik'han, The Fowl Beast is a feathered piñata full of items like the "Cluckonomicon" staff that comes with a mysterious "Henlightenment" buff when you lift up loose stones around the world, or the "Eggcecutioner" scythe that causes slain enemies to lay eggs… for some reason. One of the items even boosts your damage against poultry, and as far as I know, only Chik'han would fall under that category.

Diablo 4 has slowed way down on special events compared to the ones we saw in the first year it was out. Blizzard basically flips on bonus XP for a week and calls it an event—which really doesn't bother me that much, assuming development resources are much better spent on other stuff. That said, many players find the events underwhelming when they've already cleared out everything to do in a season. A joke boss with joke loot like Chik'han is an amusing addition that at least has me counting down the hours until I can log in and see it for myself.

The achievement you earn for defeating the chicken is aptly named "April Fowl's Day 2026", implying this won't be the only time Chik'han invades Sanctuary. If it does keep coming back, I think the heroes of Sanctuary should strongly consider it a bigger threat than the Prime Evils. Those guys take hundreds of years to break out of magical rocks; the chicken seemingly is immune to such tactics and won't stop until it's pecked the world clean.
