2024 was a year in which many outstanding Superhero films were released. Despite not all the movies of this genre being equally well-received these past few months, many of the biggest studios in the industry did a spectacular job with their projects. Deadpool and Wolverine is not only one of the best works released by Marvel Studios in the last few years but also one of the best movies of the year.

Nonetheless, despite how enjoyable and refreshing this entry might have been for the studio, it did not defeat the ultimate king of 2024’s Superhero movies, My Hero Academia. The You’re Next film has been selected by fans and critics alike as the best addition to this beloved genre over the last 12 months.

Deku’s Latest Adventure Defeats Deadpool According To Rotten Tomatoes

Critics Loved The Film

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the title of best Superhero movie of 2024 belongs to Kohei Horikoshi. My Hero Academia: You’re Next surpassed all others in its genre this year, with an outstanding 94% and 91% critic and audience approval respectively. It is undoubtedly one of the best films of the franchise, with both fans and professionals agreeing on how enjoyable it is.

On the other hand, Marvel Studios’ latest superhero hit, Deadpool and Wolverine, has a fresh rating of 78% from critics. Nonetheless, the film had a slightly higher audience approval than Deku’s latest adventure, with 94%. It seems that, while critics enjoyed My Hero Academia: You’re Next much more, fans enjoyed both movies almost equally. This makes sense, as both projects are marvelous additions to the beloved superhero genre, which had been struggling for quite some time. Lastly, it is important to note that Deadpool’s third film had a much greater number of critic reviews, which might have influenced its rating.

Anime’s Popularity In The West Might Have Helped Deku

Fans Of Japanese Animation Tend To Show Great Support For Their Favorite Franchises

One of the main reasons why My Hero Academia: You’re Next surpassed Deadpool and Wolverine among critics could be the rising popularity of anime in the West. Although for many years this iconic form of animation did not get as much attention in the West, with most fandoms being small and dispersed, it has become increasingly mainstream over the past few decades. Horikoshi’s beloved franchise is an example of the rapid acceptance anime has received among Western audiences, as it is one of the most popular shows of all time. Superhero movies, on the other hand, have seen a spontaneous decline in viewers.

This is often attributed to the oversaturation and fatigue that the genre has been subjected to over the last decade. Even though Deadpool and Wolverine is an amazing film that perfectly captures what fans expect to see in comic book adaptations, the Superhero industry has heavily lost interest among critics. Nevertheless, this does not make My Hero Academia: You’re Next a superior movie, as both films excel in different aspects, and both their successes should be celebrated by fans. These two stories have helped viewers regain their faith in Superhero films after the many misses that the genre has gone through.

The Ending Of My Hero Academia Might Have Influenced The Results

Fans Are Still Emotional Over The Ending Of This Iconic Manga

On August 5, 2024, the My Hero Academia manga series ended after ten years of continuous publication. This event caused both elation and grief among fans who had spent more than a decade following Deku’s journey to become the greatest hero in the world. You’re Next was the first original story coming from this cherished series since its ending, something that greatly helped its overall performance at the box office. The movie is a great entry in the series, with many fans considering it a stellar last big-screen installment for My Hero Academia.

Unlike Deadpool, a character that still seems to have a long cinematographic career ahead of him, Deku’s latest film is likely the last time fans will see him in cinemas in many years. As such, You’re Next is more than just another anime film, it is a final chance to say goodbye to the beloved characters created by Horikoshi. Although the anime still has one final season yet to be released, meaning that this farewell will be momentary, a fact that has relieved the dread of many fans’ hearts.

My Hero Academia: You’re Next and Deadpool and Wolverine are both titles that any Superheroes fan will not regret giving a chance. These movies have helped 2024 shine as one of the best in the genre in years and will likely remain beloved classics by both comic books and anime fans alike.
