Deadpool & Wolverine battles it out with newcomers Blink Twice and The Crow for top of the box office

Deadpool and Wolverine is back at the top of the box office fighting away the competition that included two high profile newcomers, Blink Twice and The Crow, after its brief fall to second place last week. 

The Marvel mashup starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as the title characters, with cameos from Jennifer Garner and Wesley Snipes,  slashed its way back to the top spot with $18.3 million dollars its fifth weekend in theaters, on what analysts have said was the third-lowest grossing weekend of summer, according to Variety

Still, the superhero film has enjoyed a spectacular run at the box office earning more than $1.2 billion worldwide as the most successful R-rated movie of all time, and the second most successful of 2024, so far. 

The action adventure swapped places with last week's top monster, Alien: Romulus, which landed in second place its second weekend in theaters. 

Audiences for the sci-fi thriller dropped by nearly 62-percent with earnings reaching  $16.2 million.

Globally, the deep space action flick expanded its universe, pulling in more than $225.4 million. 

Third place goes to It Ends With Us. The media gossip about tension between stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni doesn't seem to have hurt the film's bottom line. 

The drama, based on the Collen Hoover novel by the same name, focusing on a young woman's escape from an abusive relationship, churned up $11.85 million its third week in theaters. 

Zoe Kravitz's Blink Twice debuted in fourth place.

The thriller starring the director's fiance Channing Tatum as a tech billionaire who invites Naomie Ackie's waitress Frida to a weekend party on his private island. Unfortunately, once there, events begin to take a frightening turn.

Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 78-percent rating, but audiences weren't as kind, turning in a 68-percent score.

The movie made $7.32 million its first weekend in theaters. 

Another newcomer, The Forge debuted in fifth place.

Produced by Sony's Affirm films, the movie has a solid base among Christian audiences and collected $6.6 million its opening weekend. 

Twisters keeps spinning, this time making it to sixth place.

The tornado chasing thriller starring Glen Powell, Daisy Ridley-Jones and Anthony Ramos continues to stir up audiences, this weekend to the tune of $6.2 million.

The 15th anniversary re-release of Coraline has been a strong contender at the box office.  The story about an 11-year-old who finds a hidden door in her house that leads to an idealized version of her life, is still touching hearts.

The movie earned another $5 million from showing in some 1,400 theaters. 

The Crow debuted in eighth place. The grizzly thriller starring Bill Skarsgård as a murdered musician seeking revenge for his death and that of his fiancée, played by FKA twigs.

The supernatural thriller received a ghastly 19-percent critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and an audience score of 65-percent, which could account for its poor showing and $4.6 million in earnings.

Despicable Me 4 and Inside Out 2 round out the top 10. 

Despicable Me 4 landed in ninth place with $4.4 million in ticket sales, adding to its worldwide tally of more than $885 million. 

Inside Out 2 is still touching hearts. It ended up in 10th place with $2.1 million. The Disney/Pixar animated film has earned more than $646 million domestically and nearly $1.65 billion around the world to earn the title most successful film of 2024 to date
