Deadpool's First Appearance In The MCU After Deadpool & Wolverine Has Me Hopeful Marvel Is Giving Ryan Reynolds' Superhero A Major Power Upgrade

4 hours ago 5

Deadpool is easily one of my favorite Marvel heroes, but I think he is due an upgrade, and thanks to some hints from his latest appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) , it looks like it could happen soon. Deadpool stands out as one of the most funny, creative, and wild characters from comic book history. He is ridiculously overpowered with immortality and a variety of other powers that are explored throughout the comics, but as far as the movies have adapted him, he's actually been pretty tame, at least in terms of power.

Wade Wilson went from being a mouthy merc whose expertise with weapons was incredible, to an unkillable mutant with one of the most insane healing factors ever, and the ability to break the fourth wall. However, all the Deadpool movies have seen Wade face notable threats, but his comic book counterpart would have no trouble defeating these rivals. In fact, Deadpool has actually killed the entire Marvel Universe in one spin-off story from the comics, which indicates how powerful he really is.

Deadpool Got A Major Upgrade In His First MCU Appearance After Deadpool & Wolverine

What If Deadpool Was Due A Huge MCU Makeover

Deadpool has finally made his way to the MCU, and don't get me wrong, that is an incredibly exciting development, but, Deadpool's latest appearance in What If...? has me even more excited. The character didn't have a major part in the episode, and Ryan Reynolds did not return to add his voice into the mix, but the series finale did end with a few brief images of other variants for heroes from the MCU. Among them, there was the Maestro version of the Hulk, and a Samurai Ghost Rider, but the one that got me most excited has to be Deadpool.

Marvel "Shouldn't Have Blocked" A Major Character From Appearing In Deadpool & Wolverine According To Deadpool Co-Creator

Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld has stated that a major character was blocked from being included in the story of 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine.

For the most part, this Deadpool has a very similar outfit to the live action version, though he does embrace a few additions from the comics. But the key detail that makes this image so exciting is the ridiculous amount of weapons he is packing. Literally, along with his trusty Katana, Deadpool is sporting some high-tech blasters, larger guns, and a mountain of weapons on his back that shows him ready to take on any challenge. And honestly, this kind of variety and arsenal of tech and weapons is what Wade has been missing in the movies.

The MCU Has The Perfect Reason For Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool To Get This Upgrade

Things Are About To Get Incredibly Tough For The Heroes Of The MCU

While there is no official word on where or when Deadpool will pop up next in the MCU, the character is expected to join the massive ensemble cast that will be appearing in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. Just like the major movie events that wrapped up the Infinity Saga, these movies are set to conclude the Multiverse Saga, and lead the MCU into the next era. But before they can move beyond the Multiverse, Marvel needs to tackle its biggest threat yet, with Doctor Doom joining the fight and causing enough chaos that the entire multiverse will need to join forces to take him on.

With that being the case, Deadpool needs to get on the same level as powerful heroes like Captain Marvel, and tech geniuses like Spider-Man, so why not give him an upgrade? Now that Marvel teased it in the What If...? finale, with that show concluding for good, the only place that something like those teasers could appear is in the Multiverse. It just makes sense for Marvel to bring the hero back with new and improved power, putting him on a more even level with the other Avengers, and helping the character to stand out.

Why I'm Hoping Deadpool's Latest MCU Appearance Is Foreshadowing Ryan Reynolds' Marvel Future

There Is So Much More Potential For Deadpool To Be Explored In The MCU

After Deadpool & Wolverine revealed the heartbreaking story of Wade losing his confidence after being rejected by the Avengers, he got a chance to prove his worth to the TVA when he stopped Cassandra Nova from destroying the Multiverse. When another major threat comes calling, it makes sense for the TVA to call on Wade and have him help to take out the next major threat. And the What If...? finale makes that possibility seem even more likely.

Jason Momoa is back at DC, with the actor playing his dream DCU role, Lobo, and an exciting update can lead to DC's version of the Deadpool movies.

Wade already got a suit upgrade thanks to the TVA in Deadpool & Wolverine, and he is not someone who usually just gives his time freely. As a mercenary, Wade is used to being paid for his hard work and making a deal, so, of course, he is likely to ask the TVA to load him up with an arsenal for the upcoming war with Doctor Doom. And if his first interaction with the other heroes is them seeing him with a ridiculous amount of weapons and tech plastered on his back, that would be the perfect introduction for such a wacky and intense character as Deadpool to finally meet the Avengers in the MCU.
