A hero. A villain. A reporter. Three old men, on one night in Gotham, each have encounters that will reverberate across their city forever. Series writer Matt Fraction is joined by sensational guest artist Ryan Sook for an unforgettable new chapter of the Caped Crusader's ongoing story.

The art shows Alan Scott's Green Lantern in his classic costume, but sporting a new beard. Jiménez's art emphasizes Green Lantern's billowing shirt and cape, with a pronounced collar and crisp folds.

BATMAN ARGUING WITH ALAN SCOTT'S GREEN LANTERN

Alan Scott debuted in 1940 and has acted as a mentor to Green Lanterns like Hal Jordan and John Stewart, despite not having a formal membership in the extraterrestrial Green Lantern Corps. He's a founding member of the Justice Society of America, operating as a worldwide hero, but often returns to his hometown of Gotham.

While Batman generally maintains a working relationship with other superheroes, he and Scott have a fractious past. Scott hasn't always approved of Batman's methods, and as a hero of light, he has a hard time with Batman's utilization of fear and darkness. Indeed, most of Earth's Green Lanterns are on poor terms with Batman.

However, with Vandal Savage attacking Gotham through its institutions, it makes sense that Alan Scott's Green Lantern would step in and show particular interest. The immortal Savage started out as an enemy of Alan Scott in Green Lantern #10, and the two have clashed many times since with Gotham as their arena.

Whether he likes it or not, it seems the Dark Knight's latest adventure will include oversight from one of DC's oldest and most respected heroes - one who doesn't have much patience for Batman's fear-based tactics and has a major personal grudge against the issue's villain.

Batman #8 is coming April 1, 2026.
