Eric Dane's Girlfriend Janell Shirtcliff Shares Touching Tribute After His Death
Dax Shepard honored his late friend Eric Dane in private.
The Parenthood alum shared that his Alcoholics Anonymous group paid tribute to the Grey's Anatomy actor after his death on Feb. 19 at the age of 53.
As Dax said on the March 2 episode of his Armchair Expert podcast, "So, we had a very, very, very sweet meeting last night."
After his cohost Monica Padman wondered if it was "about Eric," Dax shared how the group had a moment "kind of in memory of our friend."
"We don't ever have women at the meeting," he went on. "It's a stag meeting, and a woman joined and the woman was awesome."
"She goes, ‘I don’t know how all of you got through your shares without crying, but I’m going to be crying through my entire share, and I’m gonna cry for all of you,’” he added. "And we were like, ‘Well, thank you. Someone needs to.’ That was really great."
The 51-year-old had previously shared insight into his friendship with Eric, revealing that it came about after they nearly got into a physical fight at an AA meeting over a decade ago.
“Eric Dane, who I now f--king love, I have such a sweetness for him,” he told Brad Pitt on a June episode of his podcast. “But when we first were around each other, it was not good. He threatened a dude in the meeting, and I said, ‘Let’s go, motherf---er.’"

Dax went on to explain that Eric got frustrated with him for messing with the timer during the meeting.
"He goes, ‘If you hit that timer again, I’m gonna f--king throw you in that candle,’” he recalled. “And I go, ‘That’s it, motherf--ker. Stand up, let’s go outside.’ He stands up, we go outside and I’m about to beat the f--k out of him—at an AA meeting, where we’re coming for healing and understanding."
Instead of ever coming to blows, the pair eventually saw eye-to-eye and "became friends."
Eric had also previously recounted his side of the moment during a conversation, admitting that he was "not in the best space" at the time.
"I may not have even been sober at the time," he said to Dax on a September 2024 episode of Armchair Expert. "So we’re outside and Dax is like, ‘What the f--k was that about, man?’ And just as I’m about to open my mouth, our sponsor comes out and gets in between the middle of us."

“You acknowledged something I said in your chair and you actually said to the group, ‘You know, I hated you for so long, but I’ve come to really love you,’” Eric added. “And I think I might’ve returned the favor in the middle of the room.”

"He was the funniest man," Patrick shared. "He's such a joy to work with, and I want to just remember him in that spirit. Anytime he was on set, he brought so much fun to it. He had a great sense of humor. He was easy to work with. We got along instantly. His first scene was him in all his glory coming out of the bathroom with a towel on looking amazing, making me feel completely out of shape and insignificant."

"I called Eric and he answered immediately," she recalled in an Instagram post. "I said will you come back? I know it’s a pandemic and shooting is a nightmare but we’re gonna do it on the beach and keep our social distance because the world needs joy and Mark and Lexie are joy. He said where and when. When I came to set that day, he said, we’re breaking the rules and hugging now right?
