The following contains spoilers for Dexter: Resurrection and discussion of child abuse.
David Zayas officially sets his first Dexter follow-up crime series after the massive Resurrection twist. The Puerto Rican actor played Detective Angel Batista in all eight seasons of Dexter from 2006 to 2013, and reprised the role for Dexter: New Blood (2021-2022) and Dexter: Resurrection (2025).
However, the Dexter: Resurrection season 1 ending featured a massive twist in which Angel Batista is fatally shot by Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage), a billionaire venture capitalist who runs a secret society of serial killers. While Dexter: Resurrection season 2 has been confirmed, Batista seemingly won't be returning.
Now, in his first show since Dexter: Resurrection, David Zayas has been cast to replace Timothy Busfield in a previously pulled episode of Law & Order: SVU season 27, per Deadline. NBC pulled the episode, titled "Corrosive," which was set to air on January 15 and featured Busfield guest-starring as a judge.
David Zayas previously appeared in Law & Order: SVU season 3, episode 12 as Detective Milton, as well as five episodes of the main Law & Order series and three episodes of Law & Order: Criminal Intent in various roles.
The move came just days after an arrest warrant was issued for Busfield, who faces two charges of criminal sexual contact with a minor and child abuse. NBC says that Zayas has since been recast in the judge role, the episode has been reshot, and it is now scheduled to air on February 26.
Sex crimes are central to Law & Order: SVU, and the episode "Corrosive" centers on abuse, following a disturbing case in which a well-respected judge's life is threatened. The SVU squad is brought in to investigate, sending them down a complicated trail that eventually ties back to an anonymous video submitted through their tip line.
As the story develops, it explores difficult themes of trauma and healing, highlighting Detective Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish) as she helps a survivor confront past abuse.

If convicted, he could face at least three years in prison.
Authorities first became aware of the situation in late 2024, when a doctor at the University of New Mexico Hospital contacted the Albuquerque Police Department about a sexual abuse investigation involving the child actors, who are brothers born in 2014.
Warner Bros. Television also launched an internal review after SAG-AFTRA received an anonymous complaint in early 2025 about an incident on the set of The Cleaning Lady in December 2024. That inquiry ultimately cleared Busfield of wrongdoing, though the studio is continuing to cooperate with law enforcement.
Other than Dexter, Busfield's replacement on Law & Order: SVU, David Zayas, also recently appeared in The Running Man (2025) and has had recurring roles on The Bear, alongside his wife Liza Colón-Zayas, who plays Tina, Blue Bloods, Oz, and other shows.
