A recent disaster movie that boasts several fan-favorite stars makes a comeback on streaming two years after its release.

Lee Isaac Chung's Twisters, a reboot and standalone sequel to 1996's Twister, hit theaters in 2024. Starring Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Anthony Ramos, and David Corenswet, among others, Twisters follows a retired meteorologist who is persuaded to join a group of storm chasers in Oklahoma investigating an onslaught of tornadoes. The movie has a 75% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Twisters grossed an impressive $372 million at the box office, although against a budget of $155 million, meaning its profits were comparatively modest. Now, as of February 2, Twisters is no. 10 on the most-watched movies in the U.S. charts on Peacock. It trails just behind 2026 Best Picture nominee Bugonia, and then multiple installments of the Hunger Games franchise.

Twisters was previously a streaming hit in November 2024, shortly after it initially became available on Peacock. However, it has come back around following a year featuring major action movies from the lead stars. Powell has only been on the rise as an action star since 2024, having now added Chad Powers and The Running Man to his resume, with How to Make a Killing coming soon.

Corenswet's Twisters role was as the primary antagonist, but he has since become one of the biggest modern superhero stars. After breaking out with Ryan Murphy's Netflix series Hollywood, Corenswet became the new DC Universe's Superman, starring in the 2025 movie that became an incredible box office hit in an era of superhero fatigue, and contributed to Warner Bros.' record-breaking box office streak.

Moreover, there have been rumors of a Twisters sequel since the 2024 movie's success, with stars such as Powell and Ramos seeming interested in returning. This would apparently be a more traditional sequel, bringing back the recently introduced characters, rather than being a loosely connected reboot, as Twisters is to the original 1996 film.

While Twisters received some mixed reviews, its contrasting audience score on Rotten Tomatoes of 90% reveals a much more enthusiastic response, with viewers who likely would go see the sequel. They also allow Twisters to come back as a streaming hit from time to time, cementing its place as a reliable, fan-favorite modern disaster movie.
