'Data Reconstruction' priority contract walkthrough in Marathon

2 days ago 6

The "Data Reconstruction" priority contract in Marathon is one of those multi-stage questlines that Bungie's extraction shooter loves to throw at you, with each part getting gradually more difficult. This NuCaloric priority contract story takes you to both Perimeter and Dire Marsh, which means you can complete it early on in your runner journey, but it's by no means easy.

Here's a complete walkthrough for all three stages of the "Data Reconstruction" priortiy contract in Marathon, including where to find sparkleaf and fungal bioprinters, the agriculture report, harvest logs, data repositories, and the AI maintenance protocol.

'Data Reconstruction' quest steps in Marathon

As mentioned, there are three separate contracts within the "Data Reconstruction" questline. Here are the objectives for all three:

'Data Reconstruction' (Stage 1 of 3) quest steps

  1. Scan sparkleaf bioprinters in South Relay (0/2)
  2. Scan fungal bioprinters in Overflow (0/2)
  3. Download agriculture report in North Relay (0/1)

'Data Reconstruction' (Stage 2 of 3) quest steps

  1. Download harvest logs from second-floor terminal of Algae Ponds (0/1)
  2. Hack data repositories along the catwalk in AI Uplink (0/3)

'Data Reconstruction' (Stage 3 of 3) quest steps

In a single run:

  1. Hack exterior data repositories in North or South Relay (0/2)
  2. Download AI maintenance protocol from second floor of Hauler (0/1)
  3. Exfil

Where to find sparkleaf bioprinters in South Relay

First up, you need to scan sparkleaf bioprinters in South Relay. That's the southeasternmost location on Perimeter, and you need to find two of them, so while one is on the outskirts, you need to head into the main building for the other. It's worth noting that since this doesn't need to be completed in a single run, if you scan one and die before scanning the other, you can return to the same bioprinter in another game to scan it again and tick off the objective.

Head to the northern side of South Relay and you'll find a small building with a cyan exterior, connected to the main building by an orange walkway. Inside, the sparkleaf bioprinter is on a desk. Interact with it to tick off the first.

The next sparkleaf bioprinter is inside the main building, in the southeast corner, approximately underneath the word "relay" on the in-game map. You'll find a broken orange bridge outside; head inside the nearby doorway, then go past the stairs and take the next doorway on your left. This bioprinter is inside.

Where to find fungal bioprinters in Overflow

Now you need to find two more bioprinters, of the fungal variety this time. Head to Overflow, the southwestern most point of interest. If you approach from the north, the icon on your HUD should appear fairly quickly, as it's near the front of the building, on the second floor.

Go inside the single doorway and take a left to find stairs going up. At the top of the stairs, take an immediate right and the first fungal bioprinter will be on a shelf against the wall.

The other bioprinter, as you might expect, is in the opposite corner of the building. It's actually in the same room as the terminal you interact with in the "Survival Directive" priority contract. You can approach from the outside and climb in through the windows, drop in through the hatch in the roof, or make your way through the oft-bot infested Overflow. Either way, the southeasternmost room on the upper floor is what you're looking for.

Where to find the agricultural report in North Relay

Finally, you need to get yourself to North Relay, one of the worst areas on Perimeter in terms of UESC resistance. You'll find the terminal on the second floor, in the huge building in the center of North Relay, where a green walkway leads to a blue double door, beneath the NuCaloric logo. Approximately above the "TH" in "NORTH" on the in-game map.

As you approach the terminal, however, it'll spark, and you'll discover you need to turn the power on first. This is in the room directly below, and the quickest path is if you break the vent cover in the corner of the room with the terminal, exit the vent at the other end, then take a right turn out of the door and go down the stairs. The switch for the power is in the room at the foot of the stairs.

Retrace your steps to go back to the terminal, interact with it to download the agriculture report, and congratulations: Stage 1 of "Data Reconstruction" is complete. Now to the next stage.

Where to download harvest logs in Algae Ponds

For the first stage of "Data Reconstruction 2/3," you need to head to Algae Ponds in Dire Marsh. This is one of the most popular spots on the map for other runners, so be careful.

The left-hand side of the image shows the player in the room with the objective to download the harvest logs in Marathon while the right-hand side of the image shows the location marked on the in-game map with a star. Graphic: Ford James/Polygon Images: Bungie via Polygon

The key part of this objective is that you're looking for a terminal on the second floor of Algae Ponds, but since it's a relatively flat location, only a small part of the cyan-colored exterior building has a second floor. The room you're looking for is the one with the huge, floor-to-ceiling windows, directly beneath the 'ALG' in 'ALGAE' on the in-game map. Interact with the terminal to complete the task.

Now you need to get yourself to AI Uplink, to the southeast of Algae Ponds. This is where you'll be the most vulnerable during the entirety of "Data Reconstruction," because you're looking for the tall catwalk that runs from west to east above the water. It's easy to spot, but you'll be visible from all angles.

Climb up to the catwalk and you'll find pads you can interact with on the grey support beams holding up the huge cables. Use three of them to complete the objective and "Data Reconstruction 2/2."

Where to hack exterior data repositories in North or South Relay

Finally, you've made it to the third and final stage of "Data Reconstruction." Unfortunately, these objectives all have to be completed in a single run, which requires hauling yourself across most of Perimeter.

The left-hand side of the image shows the player in Marathon hacking a data repository while the right-hand side of the image shows both locations at South Relay marked on the in-game map. Graphic: Ford James/Polygon Images: Bungie via Polygon

First up, you need to hack two exterior data repositories in North or South Relay. In the outdoor areas of these locations, you'll find tall server racks, colored bright orange and blue. They're easy to spot from afar, and as you approach, the icon will appear on your HUD. Scan two of these to complete the objective. I completed both at South Relay, so those locations are highlighted on the image above.

Where to download AI maintenance protocol from the second floor of Hauler

Now you need to get yourself to Hauler, one of the runner hotspots on Perimeter. This place is also usually crawling with UESC enemies, so your best bet is to get in and out of there as quickly as possible. Due to its layout, you'll either approach from the north or the south, but it's symmetrical on each side, so find your nearest staircase or ladder to get to the second floor.

The left-hand side of the image shows the player in front of the prompt to download the AI protocol while the right-hand side of the image shows the location marked on the in-game map with a star icon. Graphic: Ford James/Polygon Images: Bungie via Polygon

You're looking for a room near the very center, near the locked doors that require the Hauler Observation key and a stone's throw from the room filled with toxic gas. The objective icon should appear on your HUD when you're close, and the second floor of Hauler isn't particularly big, so do a quick lap and you'll find it with ease.

Once you've downloaded the maintenance protocol, all that's left to do is extract safely. If you're lucky, an exfil site will appear just to the south of Hauler, but if not, you'll have to trek across the map. Unfortunately, if you don't manage to get out successfully, you'll need to redo stage three from the start.

Our guides to the Marathon weapons, classes, seasons, and more are exactly what you need to succeed in this extraction shooter. We also have guides for the "Introducing: Traxus" and "Order/Chaos" priority contracts too.
