Darrell Sheets' Storage Wars co-stars say he was 'terrified for his life' amid 'cyberbullying' before death

Darrell Sheets' former Storage Wars castmates said that the late star had been 'terrified for his life' before his tragic death at age 67 on April 22.

The TV personality appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, the Lake Havasu Police Department said in a press release obtained by the Daily Mail.

New details soon emerged about the last months of his life, with resurfaced Facebook posts showing that Sheets claimed he was a victim of a 'cyber bully stalker.'

Laura and Dan Dotson claimed that the cyberbullying had been going on for 'three years' during an interview with Us Weekly published on Friday.

The pair previously starred with Sheets on the A&E reality stars until his last appearance on the show in 2023.

'Cyberbullying is a real thing,' Laura told the outlet, while adding that it can affect 'even strong men that you think aren't gonna get their feelings hurt.'

'This made him feel less than, and it really obviously bothered him. He was terrified for his life [and] for the people around him. He didn't know why he was being targeted.'

She also claimed there were 'other things' in his life that he had been dealing with leading up to his passing.

'His health and certain things that might have contributed to [his death],' Laura said. 

'Relationships, love interests and stuff that would go up and down, but [he] truly, truly was a wonderful, loving person who believed in God.' 

Dan had also taken to his Instagram account on Wednesday following the heartbreaking news of Sheets' death. 

He uploaded a throwback photo with the late star and wrote in the caption: 'RIP Darrell Sheets. You're in our hearts and minds. The world is going to miss you brother.'

Resurfaced posts from Sheets' Facebook page have offered a glimpse into the turmoil he was suffering before being found dead in the early hours of Wednesday.

Sheets claimed he had fallen victim to a 'cyber bully stalker' who hid behind hundreds of 'spoof numbers' as well as a variety of online aliases.

He accused the alleged stalker of impersonating him and 'harassing' small businesses, as well as having 'extorted money' from several people.

In the wake of his death, his friend and Storage Wars co-star Rene Nezhoda urged law enforcement to look into the 'cyberbullying.'

A police spokesman has since confirmed: 'We are aware of these cyberbullying accusations and that is a part of the active investigation,' via Page Six.

On March 9, Sheets posted to Facebook claiming he had been 'hacked by a very evil person' who was uploading 'posts' from an account pretending to be him. 

Insisting that he was 'not gay' and had 'made no post about any children’s arcade owner,' Sheets wrote that his purported tormentor had 'ruined' him to the point that 'people are showing up to my work and wanting to harm me.'

Two days later, Sheets posted to Facebook for the last time in his life, painting a chilling picture of an online campaign he said had stretched over a span of three years.

He asserted that his alleged 'stalker' had 'been going after other small businesses in town and harassing them using my name.' Sheets maintained: 'It is not me!'

Among his final pleas for help, Sheets said his accused cyberbully had 'extorted money from many people in this town acting like a handyman.'

Sheets added that 'the things he says are very damaging,' and explained that he was posting about the crisis in case 'anything happens to me.'

Six weeks later, police arrived at his Lake Havasu home at 2am and found his body. 

His death prompted a devastated Instagram video from Rene Nezhoda, who had been his rival on 10 seasons of Storage Wars from 2014 to 2023.

At one point, Nezhoda said that 'Darrell would want something positive out of this,' before asserting someone had been 'really, really tormenting him lately and cyberbullying.' 

He also added Sheets had 'been posting a lot' about the person who had allegedly been 'cyberbullying and tormenting him.'

Nezhoda expressed hopes that 'law enforcement' would 'look into' the matter 'and it's not just a pass. Because it's just not right, guys. Be better.'

The Lake Havasu City Police Department's public information officer, Sergeant Kyle Ridgeway, confirmed that 'cyberbullying accusations' are part of the investigation.

In the early morning hours of Wednesday, law enforcement responded to a call regarding a deceased individual at his residence.

'The male subject has been identified as Darrell Sheets, a 67-year-old resident of Lake Havasu City and Darrell's family has been notified,' the release stated.

Sheets had been pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to the Mohave County Medical Examiner's Office.

The 'incident remains under active investigation, and additional information will be released as it becomes available,' Lake Havasu police concluded. 

Sheets had been residing in Lake Havasu City following his retirement and also ran an antique store called Havasu Show Me Your Junk. 

The late star appeared on Storage Wars across 13 seasons and last featured on the series in 2023. 

He had been a guest on other shows, including Rachael Ray and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Sheets was also candid about his health and revealed on Instagram in 2019 that he suffered a 'mild heart attack.'
