Editor's note: The below recap contains spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Episode 4.
Netflix's Daredevil stood out from the crowd for its TV-MA rating and brutal violence, which helped create some of the greatest comic-adaptation villains of all time. Vincent D'Onofrio's now-iconic portrayal of Wilson Fisk, otherwise known as the notorious Kingpin, is evidence of that, as he is just as crucial and as well-developed a character as Charlie Cox's titular hero. However, Season 3 of the original series brought another one of the Man Without Fear's legendary villains to life with Wilson Bethel's Benjamin "Dex" Poindexter, a former law-enforcement officer turned mentally unstable assassin who becomes known as Bullseye.
Bullseye's return in Daredevil: Born Again not only paid off the original Daredevil's cliffhanger ending, but also helped the show regain its footing with fans after the MCU reboot was initially going to ignore the previous Netflix continuity. The new Bullseye may be much closer to his comics counterpart (and not just because he finally has his iconic costume), but the show has also primarily focused on Matt and Fisk's ongoing power dynamics over fleshing him out. That finally changes in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2's fourth episode — an action-packed and twist-filled installment that might be the show's best chapter yet.
Bullseye Is the Punisher on Steroids in 'Daredevil: Born Again' Season 2 Episode 4
One of Daredevil: Born Again's biggest mysteries is what exactly Bullseye's goals are, with the talented assassin now clearly putting his rivalry with Daredevil aside to set his sights on Fisk. After briefly working for the Kingpin in Daredevil Season 3 before Fisk had the woman Poindexter loved (and stalked) killed, Bullseye has become one of Daredevil's most unpredictable enemies, but we finally get more insight as to what the ruthless killer has been up to since he broke out of prison in Daredevil: Born Again Season 1. At first glance, it almost looks like Dex has turned a new leaf as a productive member of society. He's saying hi to his neighbor, enjoying a morning stroll, and even sitting down at his local diner for a delicious milkshake. Certainly nothing here can take a turn for the worse... right?
Things start to dip into scary territory when Dex makes a call to 9-1-1, claiming that Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal), AKA the Punisher, is getting ready to shoot up the diner. When Fisk's Anti-Vigilante Task Force arrives on the scene, they may wish it were just Frank waiting for them. Daredevil: Born Again continues the show's exceptional streak of incredible action sequences, with Bullseye using anything and everything to slaughter every AVTF agent in the building. However, unlike in his first killing spree in Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, the horrified bystanders and civilians are left unscathed, so there is some moral claritywithin the notorious bad guy.

Naturally, it doesn't take long for Matt and Karen (Deborah Ann Woll) to hear about the massacre, and all those deaths via toothpicks and forks can only lead to one natural suspect. Shortly after recording video testimonies of all of Fisk's victims who have been illegally incarcerated by the AVTF, they say the oh-so-cherished "L word" to each other, but now Daredevil has to get to the bottom of what Bullseye's end goal is, even if Karen is less than keen about giving Foggy Nelson's (Elden Henson) killer any more attention than he deserves. Matt goes undercover to try to follow Bullseye's trail, and eventually, it leads him to Dex's apartment, where the two longtime foes have a long-awaited rematch that ends with Bullseye quickly holding his elderly neighbor hostage. The hostage he's currently threatening to kill shows that Dex hasn't completely turned over a new leaf, but his ramblings about doing "one good deed" prove that his goal is to do one act of redemption to free his conscience of all of his evil deeds.
Wilson Fisk Faces His Biggest Challenge Yet in 'Daredevil: Born Again' Season 2 Episode 4
While Matt is hot on Bullseye's trail, Fisk (who honestly has not had much to do this season so far) is still reeling from the prison break in his beloved AVTF facility, and that doesn't even account for the PR nightmare of the smuggling ship he just destroyed. The latter is less-than-great news for Mr. Charles (still gleefully and entertainingly brought to life by Matthew Lillard). The shadowy government agent was fully expecting to keep moving his weapons from the shipwreck, and Fisk's unceremonious destruction of all of that has put a major damper on his grand plans. Fisk is hardly bothered by Charles' probing, as he has a publicity stunt in the form of a high-profile boxing match to get to. It might not be the smartest move to make such a public appearance right now, especially since his wife Vanessa (Ayelet Zurer) is bringing a gun in case any vigilantes show up, but the Kingpin has never been one to shy away from a fight.
The boxing match ends relatively quickly, as Fisk once again proves that he doesn't need superpowers to absolutely decimate his opponents. Before the Fisks can truly celebrate their newest decorative victory, Bullseye shows up to ruin the party and begins to indiscriminately kill every single one of Fisk's cronies to try and get closer and closer to the big man himself. Naturally, Daredevil has to step in to stop Bullseye from wreaking too much havoc, as his moral compass simply won't let even his greatest enemies get mercilessly murdered.
After Bullseye is shot by Vanessa, the assassin escapes with Daredevil hot on his trail, but things are about to take a dark turn for Fisk. Just when it looks like the Fisks have made it out of Bullseye's attack unscathed, Wilson turns to see Vanessa with a large shard of glass in her neck, courtesy of Bullseye during the scuffle. It's a seemingly mortal wound for Vanessa, and one that would be more than fitting, given she was the one who ordered Bullseye to kill Foggy. Still, the implications for what a Vanessa-less world would mean for Fisk are grave indeed. A variant of the Kingpin (Liev Schreiber) from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was willing to destroy an entire multiverse after his own version of Vanessa was killed, so one can only imagine what the MCU's Kingpin is capable of after Daredevil: Born Again's most shocking twist yet.
