EXCLUSIVE: Longtime NCIS: Los Angeles star Daniela Ruah is lining up her movie directing debut with novel adaptation Nowhere Boy.
The YA novel charts the story of a teenage refugee escaping conflict whose father dies on their journey to Europe. As an orphan alone in Brussels, his dream of reaching England fades. Instead, he finds himself hiding in a house where, upstairs, an American family — including a 13-year-old boy named Max — lives. Max finds Ahmed, and the two become friends, giving the latter new direction.
Katherine Marsh’s novel is being adapted by Anastasia Kousakis (NCIS: Los Angeles), and is being produced by Matthew Baer, whose credits include Angelina Jolie and Universal’s Oscar nominated book adaptation Unbroken.
Ruah is also making the film under her production banner Merkaba Films, which has a slate of projects in development. The actress is coming off a 14-year run on hit CBS drama NCIS: Los Angeles, for which she also directed multiple episodes. She most recently starred in Portuguese-language HBO Max mini-series O Grito.
As we recently revealed, the American-Portuguese actress will re-team later this year with NCIS: Los Angeles alum Natalia del Riego in movie And Then She Was Gone.
Ruah is repped by Gersh and Entertainment 360.
