JENNIFER GRAYLOCK/INSTARimages.comWhile the Wizarding World may still be what he's known for best, Daniel Radcliffe has a few other movies he says fans want to talk to him about.
The Harry Potter franchise helped kickstart Radcliffe's acting career, opening the door for a variety of international roles. After memorably following the blockbuster series up with the gothic horror adaptation of The Woman in Black, Radcliffe has explored both protagonist and antagonist roles on screen and on stage, more recently having co-led the Broadway revival of Merrily We Roll Along, which also got a live recording theatrical release, and the anthology comedy series Miracle Workers.
Now, during ScreenRant's latest episode of its Debunking AI series, Radcliffe opened up about the non-Harry Potter roles he's most approached by fans about. Humorously acknowledging that "you can sometimes tell" which movie people will want to talk about, the two-time Emmy nominee said that Guns Akimbo and Swiss Army Man are the two "that I get the most people mentioning to me," with some even calling the latter A24 dramedy their "favorite movie."
Radcliffe also recalled that "once upon a time," he was often approached by fans for his appearance in the BBC sitcom Extras. In particular, many conversations he had about the show were with "young [men] in England" who wanted the star to think "you didn't give a s--t about Harry Potter":
Daniel Radcliffe: They would be like, "I loved you in Extras. I don't like Harry Potter." And I was like, "Okay, mate. That was also 10 years of my life. You don't have to say you didn't like Harry Potter." [Chuckles] But yeah, I feel like Extras. I used to get a lot, still do sometimes. And, of course, I will occasionally also be recognized for work that is not my own Lord of the Rings, which has happened quite a few times, even though stood next to each other, Elijah and I look quite different. The idea of us is the same.
The years that immediately followed his Harry Potter finale saw Radcliffe branching out in various ways, though Swiss Army Man and Guns Akimbo still mark two of his wilder efforts. The former, which marked the feature debut of Everything Everywhere All at Once duo Daniel Scheinert and Daniel Kwan, saw him play a corpse used by a marooned man to survive and cope with his isolation, while the latter saw him play a computer programmer who has two pistols bolted into his hands and forced to compete in an underground fight organization.
Released in 2016 and 2020, respectively, both Swiss Army Man and Guns Akimbo saw somewhat mixed responses upon their debuts. The A24 dramedy sparked walkouts after its Sundance premiere due to its unusual premise, though it'd later develop a cult following as it earned a 73% approval rating from critics and 72% approval from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
The action-comedy, meanwhile, started garnering controversy just prior to its release, as writer/director Jason Lei Howden posted a series of controversial tweets accusing critics of apparently bullying a fellow critic for the use of a racial slur, which the studio called "upsetting and disturbing" but stood by the movie's release. Guns Akimbo's theatrical run was then cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, only grossing $1 million against its $15 million production budget.

After starring as Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe has moved on to a wide variety of roles. Here's how his other films stack up against Harry Potter.
Between their extremities, off-kilter characters and his being the lead in both films, it's understandable why Swiss Army Man and Guns Akimbo stand out as the two non-Harry Potter roles Daniel Radcliffe is approached about the most. Given he continues to explore new avenues of storytelling, particularly in the world of comedy, it will be interesting to see if the Emmy nominee may yet top either film and have a new ongoing talking point with his fans.
