The Winter 2026 season has brought with it many exciting new romance anime, such as Tamon's B-side, Hana Kimi, Champignon Witch, The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife, to name just a few. And yet, despite all these excellent new releases, romance anime fans are still waiting on the return of one particular Crunchyroll romance series.
Despite the first season having released way back in 2022, CloverWorks' My Dress-Up Darling hasn't lost its momentum in the slightest. Season 2, which aired between July and September 2025, was met with just as much excitement despite the long wait between seasons. Fans of the series were just as enthusiastic anticipating Season 3, but unfortunately, My Dress-Up Darling's anime has dropped a disappointing update in that regard.
My Dress-Up Darling Reveals Season 3 Hasn't Been Greenlit Yet
In a recent interview with Anime! Anime! Shota Umehara, the Producer for Season 1 and the Production Desk Manager for Season 2 of My Dress-Up Darling opened up on the series' renewal prospects. When asked about Season 3, which has yet to be officially announced, Umehara revealed that nothing has been decided just yet, stating, "The production is a complete blank slate."
While the series has yet to be greenlit, Umehara did also express being open to working on another installment, adding, "But if all things align, I would like to make another one." He also added, "I can’t make a sloppy anime. I want to express my gratitude to all the viewers."
This news has certainly come as a huge blow to fans of My Dress-Up Darling who have been looking out for an update on Season 3 ever since Season 2 concluded back in September 2025, nearly half a year ago, especially since the series absolutely needs another season to end things properly.
My Dress-Up Darling Needs A Third Season
While things do not look promising for My Dress-Up Darling's anime at the moment, its immense popularity suggests that Season 3 is only a matter of when rather than if. The series' manga also recently wrapped up, with the ending being very well received.
However, the same can hardly be said of Season 2 of the anime, which left things between Marin and Gojo on a very uncertain, open-ended, and frankly unsatisfying note. After egging fans on with a potential confession from Marin, Season 2 of My Dress-Up Darling ultimately never saw said confession take place, with Marin instead asking Gojo for a selfie instead.
The moment was very reminiscent of Ouran High School Host Club which saw Tamaki and Haruhi hug instead of kiss while falling off the bridge at the end, just to never give fans a second season. In this way, despite getting a second season, My Dress-Up Darling has still somehow managed to fall victim to the classic romance anime curse.
The Season 2 finale simply does not function as an ending to the series or Marin and Gojo's story, which is why a third season is absolutely needed to wrap things up properly.
It would also be really easy to do so with only one volume worth of manga content left to adapt. That said, until then, fans can only hope and wait to some day see Gojo and Marin's love story animated to the end.
