At the end of One Piece season 2, the hook-handed man, also known as Mr. 0, leader of the Baroque Works criminal organization, was fully shown after previously only being heard or glimpsed lingering in the shadows. This quick appearance laid the groundwork for Crocodile’s schemes in season 3, which is subtitled The Battle of Alabasta. Manganiello has shared new details about what fans can expect from his character’s expanded role when the Netflix show returns.
In a video posted on X and other platforms, Manganiello answered several questions about One Piece season 3 while holding his dog Bubbles. The first was what he considered the most impressive set, and he shared the following words about Crocodile’s lair and its practical construction:
This is my great hall, complete with staircase that I can throw people down who betray me. And then we have my Seastone cage over there. And I have a lever that I can lower the cage into the water, then the cage actually lowers in real life. Those crocodile heads up there, real water comes out of them and pours down. So I’m gonna miss it so much, that I actually had some of it replicated in the basement of my house.
Crocodile’s office was partially shown in "Wax On, Wax Off” when he communicated with Sanji on his transponder snail. The office was then fully presented when he met in person in the One Piece season 2 finale’s final scene with Miss All-Sunday, a.k.a. Nico Robin. Crocodile’s lair was also shown to be underwater, and Manganiello’s new comments indicate that a decent chunk of time will be spent there in season 3. The presence of a Seastone cage also means that any Devil Fruit users put inside of it will be weakened.
Crocodile is one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, i.e. a powerful pirate who has had their bounty cancelled in exchange for serving the World Government. However, he continues his illegal activities through Baroque Works, and he’s determined to conquer Alabasta as part of his plan to obtain the One Piece. Later in the conversation, Maganiello shared that when he spoke with One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda about “Crocodile and his backstory,” the writer/artist told him, “Now the character belongs to you, and it’s yours to develop, and yours to create with.”
Manganiello has been promoted to a series regular in One Piece season 3’s cast, as have Lera Abova, Mikaela Hoover, and Sendhil Ramamurthy, who play Robin, Tony Tony Chopper, and Nefertari Cobra, respectively. New additions to the live-action adaptation include Xolo Maridueña Portgas D. Ace, Cole Escola as Bon Clay/Mr. 2, Awdo Awdo as Mr. 1, Daisy Head as Miss Doublefinger, Emilio Sakraya as Koza, Omid Abtahi as Toto, Jamie Ward as Pell, and Nabeel Khan as Chaka. Season 3 began filming last November and concluded at the end of June.
One Piece season 3 is expected to premiere on Netflix in 2027.
