When Criminal Minds season 18 ended in a proposal from Tara Lewis (Aisha Tyler) to Rebecca Wilson (Nicole Pacent), many were hopeful that a wedding would be on the horizon for the couple. Unfortunately, after a massive time jump, the chances of a reunion on Criminal Minds: Evolution look bleak.
Criminal Minds Skips Over Tara & Rebecca's Wedding, Where The BAU Could've Reunited
When Criminal Minds season 18's end featured a proposal, it felt like a certainty that Tara and Rebecca's wedding would be the next big milestone event for the series. After JJ's (AJ Cook) loss and a tough season for the BAU as a whole, seeing something optimistic felt refreshing, and the promise of a hopeful, happy event was something fans could look forward to. Unfortunately, the opening of Criminal Minds season 19 immediately made it clear that a year had passed since the end of the previous season, and it was quickly announced that Tara and Rebecca were already married.
While the couple may not have chosen to have a big wedding in the first place, completely moving past the idea of an event for the couple also dashed any chances of a reunion for the larger Criminal Minds cast. If Tara and Rebecca's wedding had been something that viewers had the chance to look forward to, with planning threading throughout the season as a whole, a reunion of old Criminal Minds favorites could've been woven into the story. Instead, viewers were met with the fact that they missed out on the chance to see a major milestone at all.
Evolution's Lack Of Original Cast Reunions Has Been It's Biggest Pitfall
Although the cast of Criminal Minds: Evolution has been more than capable of holding things down without past cast members, the lack of reunions of previous stars has been the biggest pitfall of the reboot. It's been great to see the team working together through difficult stretches and intense cases, but reminders of the original series loom around every corner, and seeing old cast members would be a nice nod to the fact that Criminal Minds has been part of the cultural lexicon for the last 20 years. Checking in with old BAU team members would be a great touch.
Although Gray Gubler returned for an appearance as Reid during the previous season and hasn't ruled out more Criminal Minds in the future, he isn't the only person viewers would like to see back on the series in the future. It's possible that guest appearances, even slightly longer arcs that involve past characters, could help to keep Criminal Minds: Evolution moving ahead in a successful, exciting way for years to come.
