Chris is a Senior News Writer for Collider. He can be found in an IMAX screen, with his eyes watering and his ears bleeding for his own pleasure. He joined the news team in 2022 and accidentally fell upwards into a senior position despite his best efforts.

For reasons unknown, he enjoys analyzing box office receipts, giant sharks, and has become known as the go-to man for all things BoschMission: Impossible and Christopher Nolan in Collider's news division. Recently, he found himself yeehawing along to the Dutton saga on the Yellowstone Ranch.

He is proficient in sarcasm, wit, Photoshop and working unfeasibly long hours. Amongst his passions sit the likes of the history of the Walt Disney Company, the construction of theme parks, steam trains and binge-watching Gilmore Girls with a coffee that is just hot enough to scald him.

His obsession with the Apple TV+ series Silo is the subject of mockery within the Senior News channel, where his feelings about Taylor Sheridan's work are enough to make his fellow writers roll their eyes.

Some of the best streaming shows of the last few years live squarely in the crime-thriller lane — and Mayor of Kingstown belongs right at the top of that pile. While the series was controversially capped at five seasons, it’s quietly roaring back to life on Paramount+, making this the ideal moment to finally dive in.

Crime thrillers thrive in the binge era because the genre is built for momentum, moral gray areas, and “just one more episode” pacing, which is why shows like The Night Agent, Tulsa King, and Slow Horses have dominated charts. Mayor of Kingstown plays the same game — but darker, messier, and with far fewer clean wins. The series has long been considered one of Taylor Sheridan's most underrated projects — darker, harsher, and more relentlessly bleak than Yellowstone, but also deeply compelling.

The series stars Jeremy Renner as Mike McLusky, the latest member of a family tasked with mediating between gangs, police, politicians, and prison officials in a Michigan town whose entire economy revolves around incarceration. Despite strong performance across four seasons, Mayor of Kingstown is ending with Season 5. That decision wasn’t about quality — it came after Sheridan signed an overall deal with NBCUniversal that will eventually see him move away from Paramount.

How Did Jeremy Renner React to 'Mayor of Kingstown' Ending?

With production on the final series set to begin imminently, as confirmed by Collider, Renner addressed the renewal — and the looming end — via social media: "Season 5. Rebirth. Renewed, here we go. Back to work this year, we're excited, and I just wanted to take a minute to say thank you to everyone, and I love you." He also followed up with a message in the caption, expressing how thankful he was, and crediting the show’s audience for carrying it this far.

"I find myself in deep gratitude this gorgeous morning. After a rebirth, today, announcing a renewal of Mayor of Kingstown Season 5... what a blessing... and it's all because of the amazing, dedicated fans. Thank you."

And as previously noted, the decision also makes Mayor of Kingstown the first ongoing Sheridan series to receive an official end date following Paramount+’s recent regime change. Mayor of Kingstown currently streams on Paramount+ and will stream on Netflix in 2026.
