Creature Commandos' final episode wraps up the DCU's premiere project with spectacular emotion, phenomenal twists, and the promise of much more to come. While the underdog team arrived with very little fanfare as a group of misguided monsters, the members of Task Force M finish out season 1 as heroes ready to move on to the next big mission. The show did a fantastic job laying the foundation for the DCU while still keeping the focus acutely on this group of lesser-known characters.

This animated series follows a covert team of monstrous inmates recruited for perilous missions deemed unsuitable for humans. United by secrecy and necessity, the Creature Commandos tackle extraordinary threats, serving as the ultimate option when traditional forces fall short.

Seasons 1

Episode 7 turns its focus to Nina Mazursky, unpacking their origins while also pushing forward the Pokolistan narrative surrounding Princess Ilana and Circe. The show elegantly navigates these two stories and weaves them together to create a compelling, twisty, and emotional end to Creature Commandos season 1. And, as with any season finale, it drops in some breadcrumbs for season 2.

James Gunn Has Done It Again With Creature Commandos

Writer-director James Gunn has been appointed the co-head of the newly established DC Studios and Creature Commandos proves he is the perfect man for the task. This marks Gunn's fourth time creating a superhero team out of primarily unknown characters, first for the MCU with Guardians of the Galaxy and then for the DCEU with The Suicide Squad, followed by a spin-off with some of the most niche characters from that film in Peacemaker, and Creature Commandos.

This marks Gunn's fourth time creating a superhero team out of primarily unknown characters.

When it comes to creating superhero shows that evoke emotion and deliver incredible backstories with unique teams, Gunn has proven his talents over and over. Creature Commandos' season 1 finale follows a turbulent journey as the heroes find themselves split up and finally reunited. But as they get to the point of completing their mission, things get tense and more dangerous than ever. The results are explosive and have major fallout, but ultimately, the ending is deeply satisfying after a rollercoaster season 1.

And much of this is down to the writing from Gunn, which moved the story along at a great pace, gave each character time to shine, and provided profound emotional backstories for each of the new heroes. The show is a standout entry in the superhero genre and an excellent jumping-off point for the DCU. It's great to start with a series that highlights the monsters before the next entry in Chapter One introduces the gods. It's perfectly balanced, with incredible execution, and all wrapped up in an animation style that lightens the tone of an otherwise incredibly dark storyline.

Creature Commandos Sets The Standard High For The DCU

Creature Commandos went above and beyond in making these characters rich and interesting. While they may not normally overlap with heroes like Superman, Gunn's DCU promises to be intricately connected. And with how well these heroes have been received, it'll be exciting to see them when they appear next.

Creature Commandos season 1 has given them a wonderful introduction, and now it remains to be seen how these monsters will be translated into live-action.

The voice actors are excellent, capturing emotion, fun, and intensity in their performance with just their voice. And considering they are also supposed to play these parts across mediums, it will be exciting to see them step out of the recording booth and onto the big screen. Creature Commandos season 1 has given them a wonderful introduction and now it remains to be seen how these monsters will be translated into live-action.
