Nearly two years after a somewhat dissatisfying conclusion, Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone is back on small screens, but this time with a new spin-off, marking its first post-finale. Although viewers may have expected the follow-up to be as gripping as its mothership series, that's sadly not the case so far, based on reviews, which describe it as the least favorite and most disappointing in the franchise. Nevertheless, that hasn't stopped audiences from keeping up as episodes release weekly, with the most recent being Episode 2.
Titled "Zone of Death," the latest episode of Yellowstone's divisive spin-off, Marshals, has hinted at the possibility of two major franchise characters appearing. The March 8 episode sees Tate Dutton (Brecken Merrill) ask his father, Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes), if he would oversee East Camp while he begins his new career as a U.S. Marshal. Kayce responds, "Rip found some hands 'til I can find a more permanent solution."
Of course, Kayce is referring to Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), the husband of his sister Beth (Kelly Reilly), both of whom could "potentially" appear in this season of Marshals. Series creator Spencer Hudnut teased as much in a recent interview, saying:
"We have a couple of characters who will pop up this season who are from [the 'Yellowstone'] universe. You know, Kayce still has a sister and brother-in-law who are out there, so, that's always potentially on the horizon. I don't know how we would make all that work."

More 'Yellowstone' Characters Could Appear in the Latest Spin-Off
When Yellowstone ended in December 2024, Beth purchased a new ranch in Dillon, Montana, a few hours away from where the Duttons reigned in Bozeman. All she wanted was to enjoy a quieter life with Rip and Carter (Finn Little), the young man the couple has come to see as a son. At the time, Rip implied that he'd be close enough to still lend Kayce the occasional hand, and this Marshals reference confirms that Rip indeed has his brother-in-law's back. Rip and Beth appearing in Marshals would also make perfect sense, given their long-awaited Dutton Ranch spin-off.
Speaking further about Marshals' connection to Yellowstone in terms of characters, Hudnut mentioned that the neo-Western sequel has a "very friendly open door policy" regarding existing Yellowstone characters. "You're talking about the most popular show of the last 20 years," he stated. "Anybody that could and would come back, we would be honored to have."
Marshals airs on CBS. Follow Collider for future Yellowstone updates.
