Country superstar Garth Brooks eyes possible $2BILLION deal for his music catalog - the biggest deal for a single artist

Garth Brooks is one of the biggest names in country music with 20 songs topping the Billboard charts and a career that has spanned over three decades.

And now, the superstar, 64, is reportedly eying a possible $2 billion deal for his impressive music catalog, as reported by the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday.

The sale would consist of Brooks's songwriting and recorded music rights.

The singer-songwriter has reportedly been in talks with investors, with valuations for his discography ranging between $1 billion and over $2 billion.

If the deal goes through, it would be the largest for a solo artist in history - beating out even the $1.2 billion valuation of pop icon Michael Jackson's catalog.

Throughout his 36-year career, Brooks has sold more than 200 million units in the United States alone, per the Recording Industry Association of America.

His life of work has seen him collect a Kennedy Center Honor, two Grammy Awards, and the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize.

His most famous songs include the 1990 blue-collar anthem Friends in Low Places, The Dance (1990), The Thunder Rolls (1991) and the 2007 chart topper More Than a Memory.

The star's last album Time Traveler was released in 2023, which became certified platinum this year with 1 million units sold, as per RIAA.

Brooks's possible catalog sale comes amid a growing trend of music artists cashing in on their music after establishing lucrative careers.

In recent years companies like Hipgnosis Song Management and Sony Group Corporation have offered investors the opportunity to earn royalties from the work of various artists.

Sony Group Corporation bought Bruce Springsteen's catalog in a deal worth $500 million in 2021, according to Billboard.

And the corporation acquired legendary rock band Queen's music in 2024 in a reported $1.3 billion deal, per Variety.

Justin Bieber famously sold his catalog to Hipgnosis Song Management for $200 million in January 2023.

At the time, the company's founder Merck Mercuriadis released a statement on about the acquisition, reading: 'The impact of Justin Bieber on global culture over the last 14 years has truly been remarkable.

'This acquisition ranks among the biggest deals ever made for an artist under the age of 70, such is the power of this incredible catalog that has almost 82 million monthly listeners and over 30 billion streams on Spotify alone.'

Similarly, in May 2022 Justin Timberlake sold his entire song catalogue in a deal reportedly worth $100million.

In 2023, Michael Jackson's estate sold a 50% stake in the late pop star's music catalog to Sony Group for at least $600 million.

Billboard reported at the time that Jackson's publishing and recorded masters were valued at around $1.2 billion.

Even three years later, the sale is still considered the largest-ever deal for a single music artist's assets.

Brooks shares three daughters - Taylor, 33, August, 32, and Allie, 29 - with his first wife Sandy Mahl, whom he married in 1986 and separated from in 2000.

The musician, who was introduced to his now-wife Trisha Yearwood in 1988, began dating her the year he split from Mahl and married her in 2005.

For nearly two years, Brooks split his time between a four-bedroom, five-bathroom Nashville mansion, which he bought the land for in 2001 for $444,000, and Las Vegas during his Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

The star's residency wrapped in March 2025 after an impressive 72-show run.

The concerts reportedly grossed $130 million and earned high praise from critics and fans alike.

Prior to taking over Las Vegas, Brooks headlined four successful solo tours that saw him travel the globe.
