EXCLUSIVE: Constance Wu (Crazy Rich Asians), Mark O’Brien (Ready Or Not), and William Fichtner (Black Hawk Down) have wrapped on under-the-radar sci-fi thriller The Embers And The Stars.
Sara Fost Pictures, Obvious Allegory and Timelapse Pictures are behind the film which shot in North Bay, Ontario.
The first feature from writer-director William Woods follows an astrophysicist, who after making an extraterrestrial discovery, is forced to flee with his family from their home and are chased through the countryside by an anonymous pursuer.
Pic is produced by Allison White for Sara Fost Pictures, Maddy Falle for Obvious Allegory, and Albert Shin for Timelapse Pictures. The film is financed by Line 200 Inc., the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation, Ontario Creates and Vigilante Productions. VVS holds Canadian distribution rights and is eyeing a 2025 theatrical release.
Woods’ frequent collaborators Mike McLaughlin, Natasha Uhrig and Justin Oakey served as cinematographer, production designer and editor on the film, respectively. The films’ executive producers include Tom Spriggs, Rob McGillivray, Ben Stranahan, John Hansen lll, Patrick Vipond, Jared Blaichman, Mark Gingras and John Laing.
“After producing feature films for over a decade, it was a dream to be able to take the creative lead on a project,” said Woods. “I was so fortunate to be able to collaborate with a cast of amazingly talented performers like Constance, Mark and William. And to be able to work with some of my best friends in the world to craft Embers. I couldn’t be more grateful for every moment of that experience.”
