The Steam page for Elementallis bills the game as a "top-down action-adventure," which should sound awfully familiar to long-time Zelda fans. With real-time combat, temples to explore, and puzzles aplenty, all the staples you'd expect from the genre are very present in Elementalis.
Indie Zelda-likes are a dime a dozen these days, though, which can make it hard for any to stand out from the pack. Luckily, Elementallis has a twist. Rather than hacking away with a sword or other simple weapons, Elementallis employs an element-based combat system. Footage on the Steam page shows some examples of the dynamic possibilities, like forming a defensive shield out of water and zapping the puddle to electrocute enemies after it bursts.
Elementallis only has 16 Steam reviews so far, but in a rare accomplishment, its track record is currently 100% positive. The top review from Steam user Wesray calls it "a love letter to A Link to the Past and the GB(C) Zeldas" and puts forth the hope that "great word of mouth will help this game to find the success it deserves."
For some players, the Steam release of Elementallis is the satisfying payoff to a long wait. A 2021 Kickstarter initially promised that the game would come to Steam and other platforms in June 2022, a target that, needless to say, was not met. Based on the reactions so far, though, the years of development served their purpose well.
The next truly new Zelda game probably isn't coming out for a while yet (although rumors suggest an Ocarina of Time remake will tide fans over later this year), so Elementallis could be the perfect option for 2026. At any rate, it's a lot cheaper than a Zelda game would be, with an introductory discount bringing the price down to $15.29. If all goes well, Elementallis might even manage to kick off an action-adventure franchise of its own.

The Legend of Zelda franchise follows the adventures of Link, an elf-like Hylian, and Princess Zelda as they protect the land of Hyrule from the evil warlord-turned-demon king Ganon. The series is known for its mix of action, adventure, and puzzle-solving elements, often revolving around the collection of the Triforce, a powerful relic left by the goddesses who created Hyrule. Each game features different incarnations of Link and Zelda, maintaining core elements while introducing new characters and settings.
