In a new interview with the Raiders of the Lost Podcast, Milly Alcock revealed that her costume in the Supergirl movie actually has a very neat connection to Reeve's Superman. The House of the Dragon alum explained that "my cape in this film was remade using material from the original Superman cape. I think that they found there was like 16 meters of that material so that’s in the back of my cape now."
While an unexpected connection, it's still a fun one nonetheless, as it becomes a special way to keep honoring Reeve's Man of Steel through new DC media. In terms of other nods, the Supergirl movie is adapting Tom King and Bilquis Evely's popular Woman of Tomorrow comic series.
Bringing Kara back for her own solo project marks the first time the heroine has headlined a film since 1984's Supergirl with Helen Slater. The last time Krypton's last daughter was featured on the big screen prior to the DCU iteration was in 2023's The Flash, where Sasha Calle briefly played her in the DCEU movie timeline.
The 2026 story centers on Kara helping Ruthye Marye Knoll, played by Eve Ridley, on her quest to avenge the death of her family. The Supergirl cast also features Jason Momoa as Lobo, and Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills.
2026 won't be the last time audience members get to follow the Girl of Steel in the DCU. Alcock is already confirmed to be reprising the DC role in James Gunn's Man of Tomorrow movie, which is officially filming right now.
Following Supergirl, DC Studios' slate will continue on the small screen on August 16 when HBO's Lanterns premieres, featuring Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre as Hal Jordan and John Stewart, respectively. The DCU's next theatrical release after Milly's summer adventure will be on October 23 when Clayface brings the iconic Batman foe to life.
Supergirl opens in theaters on June 26.
