Chris Hughes thought Kate Lawler fat-shamed him after becoming confused about a phrase he hadn't heard of.

The Love Island star, 33, appeared on Big Brother: The Group Chat with Kate, 46, who hosts the show alongside GK Barry, 27.

During the interview, Kate said she was sorry they couldn't 'chew the fat' more with Chris because they'd run out of time.

To which Chris and GK looked very confused and thought she had called him fat.

She said: 'I would love to stay and chew the fat more with you. But at this point, we have to say goodbye.'

As GK started laughing, Chris replied: 'Chew the what? Fat what? I’ve been in the gym. I’ve been training, don’t worry about me.

Clarifying what she meant, Kate told him: 'I did not just fat shame you young man, you’re a fit and healthy man.

'Have you never heard the phrase, "chew the fat?".'

The phrase means to have a casual conversation with someone for a long time.

Chris said he hadn't but would use it in future.

Chris starred on last year's Celebrity Big Brother and went on to forge a relationship with his housemate, JoJo Siwa.

Kate, meanwhile, made history as the first-ever female winner of the civilian version of the show in 2002.

This year's series returned to ITV2 on Sunday night.

Within minutes of arriving in the house, the 2026 cast were told that there was a mole amongst them, who will be doing their best to go undetected.

They were told the mole - who the public know is YouTuber Tays - would nominate three people for eviction in the next episode of the show.

The dramatic live launch saw returning hosts AJ Odudu, 38, and Will Best, 41, introduce the 16 contestants who would be battling it out for the £100,000 prize.

The line-up includes a bunch of typically kooky hopefuls including a radio presenter, a 'stay at home daughter', and a 53-year-old content creator.
