Chris Hemsworth has shared the embarrassing reason he was once denied boarding for his international flight.

The Australian actor and his wife, Elsa Pataky, recounted the hilarious story in a new interview for Harper's Bazaar Arabia.

The 42-year-old recounted how he accidentally packed the wrong passport for his son, forcing the pair to miss the flight.

'I actually went to the airport once, and I had my daughter's passport instead of my son's passport,' Hemsworth said.

The star attempted to get through security by insisting that the document belonged to his daughter.

'This is her,' he insisted to the security agent, who replied, "That's a boy",' he recalled.

'So, yeah, that didn't work,' Chris added.

'They kind of look the same,' he insisted, before his amused wife jumped in to reply, 'They don't.'

Chris and Spanish actress Elsa, 49, who wed in 2010, are also parents to daughter India Rose, 14.

Acting talent runs in the family, as the couple's twins have made their screen debut.

Hollywood's newest 'nepo babies' appear in Elsa's new TV series, The Tribute.

In the Spanish-language production, now streaming on Sky Showtime, the twins play the sons of Elsa's character.

'They're mini clones of their dad, and they have every intention of growing up to be a world-famous hero like him,' an insider told Woman's Day.

'They go to the gym with him, surf with him – they even eat the same as their dad,' the source added.

'Elsa thinks it's hilarious to see two miniature versions of Chris, and she's very proud of them. She's been showing them the basics of acting.'

'They had never done anything with lines before, but it was a very easy sequence because they were playing my sons,' Elsa said of her boys' appearance in the series.

'They loved it because they're always on set.'

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Elsa revealed that casting Tristan and Sasha in her new thriller was a last-minute decision.

Elsa, who is an executive producer on the series, said the scene with her children had to be shot in Australia.

'The director said we had to shut down the production in Spain, and we were not going to pay for everybody to go to Australia,' she said.

'I said, "No problem, we'll do it. I'll get my husband, I'll get my kids, and get my brother behind the camera".

'We shot it very simply, with one camera. Of course, Chris was there, and it was close to my house. It's a little surprise. And it's so unexpected.'

The Tribute is an eight-part series about a powerful dynasty with dark secrets, in which Elsa plays the troubled eldest daughter to the family's ageing patriarch.
