Chelsea confirms João Pedro’s contract extension until 2034

Chelsea have tied down João Pedro to one of the longest contracts in recent Premier League memory, extending the Brazilian forward’s stay at Stamford Bridge through 2034. The deal, structured as a contract running until 2032 with a two-year club option, cements the 24-year-old as the centerpiece of the club’s attacking plans for the foreseeable future.

The announcement landed just before the start of the 2026-27 Premier League season, giving Chelsea fans something to feel genuinely optimistic about.

A debut season worth rewarding

Pedro’s first campaign in blue was, by any reasonable standard, exceptional. He netted 20 non-penalty goals across the season, a mark that places him among the most productive forwards in Chelsea’s recent history.

Beyond the individual numbers, he played a significant role in Chelsea’s Club World Cup triumph.

Chelsea originally signed Pedro from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2025 for an initial fee of £55m, with add-ons potentially pushing the total to around £60m. Fending off suitors

Pedro will wear the number 9 for the upcoming season. Danny Welbeck and Emmanuel Emegha have been brought in to provide depth behind Pedro, ensuring the club isn’t relying on a single forward to carry the scoring burden across what promises to be another grueling multi-competition campaign.

Welbeck, who reunited with Chelsea after his own stint at Brighton, brings veteran experience and a willingness to play a rotation role. Emegha offers a different physical profile and developmental upside.
