Charlize Theron Talks Plastic Surgery Rumors: "Bitch, I'm Just Aging!"
Beneath Charlize Theron’s tough exterior lies a big heart.
The 50-year-old has played some stony characters throughout her career, from post-apocalyptic soldier Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road to serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster. As a result, people often make assumptions about her personality.
“It’s funny because people think I’m a tough b---h,” Charlize told the New York Times in an article published April 18. “A lot of people think I am very cold because I come across as self-affirmed, like I can take care of myself. I’m sometimes a little brash, and people take that as, ‘She’s so tough.’”
In reality, “it’s the complete opposite” because she’s really a bit of a softie, much to the chagrin of her daughters Jackson, 13, and August, 10.
“My kids are so embarrassed by me because I will cry at the drop of a hat,” the Atomic Blonde actress admitted. “I think that’s why I’m OK at acting. I can go to those places very easily. I have an ability to really feel deeply sometimes.”
Over the years, Charlize has occasionally shared glimpses into her family life, never shying away from revealing the ways her girls are mortified by her—and keep her on her toes.
“I'm just trying to keep my head above water, because they are smart and they are witty and they are firecrackers, but they do not go, ‘Oh my god, Mom, you're so amazing.’” Charlize told E! News at her Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP) Block Party in July 2024. “They’re like, ‘Excuse me, I need. I want.’”

The Bombshell star has strived to raise her children like “normal kids,” which has resulted in some humbling moments for their mom.
“They’re a--holes, but they’re really nice,” she added in her conversation with E! News. “Other parents know what I’m talking about.”
