CBS News has pulled a “60 Minutes” segment featuring Peter Attia after the newly announced contributor was named more than 1,800 times in the latest Jeffrey Epstein file dump.
The segment, which first aired in October, featured a conversation between Attia and correspondent Norah O’Donnell. It was set to be included in a “60 Minutes” rerun that will air on Sunday against the Super Bowl, Variety has confirmed.
This comes as CBS News chief Bari Weiss is faced with the decision of whether to cut ties with Attia, a doctor and longevity expert, just a week after announcing him (and 18 others) as a contributor to the news network.
Based on email correspondence released in the Epstein files, it is clear that Attia maintained a relationship with the sex offender long after he faced trafficking and prostitution charges. In 2015, he wrote to Epstein that the “biggest problem with becoming friends with you” is that the “life you lead is so outrageous, and yet I can’t tell a soul.” Attia wrote in 2016 to an Epstein assistant, “I go into JE withdrawal when I don’t see him.” His remarks drew sharp backlash on social media.
On Feb. 2, Attia issued a lengthy apology on social media, writing that he is “ashamed” of his relationship with Epstein, who died in 2019. He called the emails “embarrassing, tasteless and indefensible” but maintained that “1. I was not involved in any criminal activity. 2. My interactions with Epstein had nothing to do with his sexual abuse or exploitation of anyone. 3. I was never on his plane, never on his island, and never present at any sex parties.”
