David Ellison and Bari Weiss tell CBS News employees of their goal to restore trust

CBS News is offering buyouts to non-union employees at CBS Evening News, following layoffs last year.

It’s unclear how many employees are being offered the buyouts, but staffers were informed of the plans earlier on Wednesday, according to a source at the news division.

The buyouts come a day after Bari Weiss, CBS News editor in chief, held an all-staff meeting to share her strategy for the news division. At the end of her presentation, Weiss also suggested an exit to those who believed that the strategy was “not your bag.” She said that there are “so many exciting things to spend your career doing.”

Even after the round of layoffs last fall, there had been expectation that further staff reductions were ahead. The buyout offers also come following the latest revamp of the Evening News, with Tony Dokoupil debuting as anchor.

The layoffs in October impacted close to 100 staffers.

More to come.
