Carrie White's New Prom Massacre Revealed In Mike Flanagan's Carrie TV Series Trailer

Mike Flanagan's new interpretation of Stephen King's iconic horror novel Carrie is finally revealed in the TV series' first trailer.

After being adapted into the influential Sissy Spacek-starring film in 1976 and a Chloë Grace Mortez-led remake in 2013, Stephen King's 1974 debut book Carrie is being turned into a TV series for the first time this fall. Written, produced, and run by Doctor Sleep's Mike Flanagan, Carrie will now become an eight-episode series on Prime Video with Summer H. Howell taking over in the titular role of Carrie White.

During Carrie's San Diego Comic-Con 2026 panel, at which ScreenRant was in attendance, the first trailer and footage for the highly-anticipated TV series was finally unveiled. Prime Video also officially announced Carrie's release date as October 7, with all eight episodes dropping at once on the streaming service. Check out Carrie's first trailer below:

In addition to Howell, the cast of Carrie includes Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White, Siena Agudong as Sue Snell, Alison Thornton as Chris Hargensen, Joel Oulette as Tommy Ross, Josie Totah as Tina, Arthur Conti as Billy, Thalia Dudek as Emaline, Amber Midthunder as Miss Dejardin, and Matthew Lillard as Principal Grayle. Alongside writing and producing the adaptation, showrunner Mike Flanagan is directing four episodes, with author Stephen King serving as an executive producer on the series.

King's novel follows Carrie White, a sheltered teenager from an abusive religious home who possesses telekinetic powers. After consistent and intense bullying from her classmates turns all the more cruel on prom night, Carrie takes her brutal revenge. While Mike Flanagan's TV series maintains the core themes and dynamics of King's novel, the Haunting of Hill House and Haunting of Bly Manor creator approaches Carrie with some modern changes.

In Prime Video's series, Carrie White is a sheltered misfit raised by her fiercely protective mother, with her father's sudden death sending her into the daunting environment of public school. Integrating modern teenage conflicts, Carrie faces relentless bullying as well as the pressures and cruelties of social media as she develops telekinetic powers.

Speaking to ScreenRant's Ash Crossan at SDCC, Flanagan discussed his approach to distinguishing Carrie from Stephen King's novel and previous adaptations of the story. The acclaimed filmmaker explained that he had the rare opportunity to "take a piece of Stephen King IP, break it into its essential elements, and build something new out of those," comparing Carrie to his strategy of adapting The Haunting of Hill House and The Fall of the House of Usher for Netflix in 2018 and 2023, respectively.

Flanagan elaborated that his series' Carrie White character "is not the Carrie White of the book" or previous adaptations, with Margaret White similarly being "completely different from the one Stephen King contemplated." By being able to take these familiar characters and stories and "turn them into something very unexpected," Carrie became "one of [his] favorite projects [he's] ever worked on."

Carrie now serves as Flanagan's fourth Stephen King adaptation, but his first for TV, having previously turned the author's stories Gerald's Game, Doctor Sleep, and The Life of Chuck into acclaimed movies. After Carrie, Flanagan already has another exciting King project officially lined up, as he'll be tackling a new film imagining of The Mist.

All eight episodes of Carrie release on October 7, 2026 exclusively on Prime Video.
