Annette Bening has debunked the portrayal of her on the buzzy new Ryan Murphy series Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette.

One of the standout scenes from the series shows Bessette (Sarah Pidgeon) styling Bening (Megan Channell) while working for Calvin Klein (Alessandro Nivola).

She was getting Bening ready for the premiere of her 1991 gangster classic Bugsy, starring her alongside Warren Beatty, whom she married shortly thereafter.

Now however Bening, 67, has confirmed that the encounter as portrayed on the show never in fact took place in real life, via Good Morning America.

She noted that she nevertheless was 'flattered' by Channell's performance, and confirmed she did meet Bessette once while the latter worked for Calvin Klein.

Bening also pointed to a telltale flaw in the show's portrayal of her at that time - in reality, she was nine months pregnant with her and Beatty's son Stephen when she attended the Los Angeles premiere of Bugsy in December 1991.

Bening has pointed out she was nine months pregnant when she attended the Los Angeles premiere of Bugsy in December 1991, where she and Beatty are pictured

'I had heard that this was happening and a number of people mentioned it to me so I watched the scene,' she recalled on Good Morning America.

'I felt very flattered by the actress. I thought she was wonderful. It didn't happen in real life. I met Carolyn Bessette once at Calvin Klein, but no, I didn't happen that way.'

She added: 'No, in fact it was supposed to be the premiere of Bugsy and I was nine months pregnant so I know for sure it wasn't me at that point.'

Kris Jenner made a similar revelation about the portrayal of her on Ryan Murphy's The People vs. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story a decade ago.

Jenner, as played by Selma Blair, was shown attending the funeral of her best friend Nicole Brown Simpson, whom OJ was controversially acquitted of murdering.

After the episode aired, Jenner disputed its depiction of the event, noting that she was in fact pregnant with her daughter Kendall Jenner at the time of the funeral.

Meanwhile JFK Jr's nephew Jack Schlossberg - the son of Caroline Kennedy and the last living grandchild of John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis - has renewed his attack on what he calls the 'grotesque' new show.

'If you want to know someone who's never met anyone in my family - knows nothing about us - talk to Ryan Murphy,' snarled Schlossberg, 33, who is running for the retiring Jerry Nadler's congressional seat in New York.

Meanwhile JFK Jr's controversial nephew Jack Schlossberg has slammed the 'grotesque' show's portrayal of events; the real Bessette and JFK Jr are pictured in 1996

'I would just want people who do watch the show to watch it with one letter in mind and that's a capital "F" for fiction,' Schlossberg told Mo Rocca on CBS Mornings

'I would just want people who do watch the show to watch it with one letter in mind and that's a capital F for Fiction,' held told Mo Rocca on CBS Mornings.

'The guy knows nothing about what he's talking about and he's making a ton of money on a grotesque display of someone else's life,' he complained.

Schlossberg then hectored Murphy to donate his proceeds from the show to 'some of the causes that John championed throughout his life' or 'to the JFK Library to help keep President Kennedy's memory alive, but he's not. He's making money. This is not a documentary and I'll leave it at that.'

Last year, when Murphy posted first look images from the show, Schlossberg leapt into the comments to admonish him that he should 'maybe consider DONATING PROFITS TO THE KENNEDY LIBRARY,' to which Murphy replied: 'I absolutely will.'
