Carly Simon pens savage new song about ex-husband James Taylor decades after their VERY bitter split and cutting off contact: 'Maybe I never loved you'

Carly Simon just penned a savage new song about her ex-husband James Taylor – over four decades after their divorce.

The revenge track – titled Maybe I Never Loved You – appears on the 83-year-old singer-songwriter's 24th studio album Comes in Waves, which drops this Friday.

'Maybe I never loved you / But anyway, I thought I did,' Simon sang – according to Page Six.

'I married you, we had a kid / That counts for something.'

The two-time Grammy winner and the 78-year-old singer-songwriter actually welcomed two children – daughter Sally, 52, and son Ben, 49 – during their 'far from the idyllic' 11-year marriage which ended, in part, due to infidelity on both sides.

'Maybe I never loved you / Yes, and maybe I did,' Simon sang on the two-minute and 33-second track.

'And maybe you never loved me / Although God knows, you said you did.'

The Bronx-born beauty and Taylor collaborated on an estimated 20 songs together, but their biggest duets were Mockingbird in 1974 and Devoted to You in 1978.

'And maybe it's best to bury whatever it was we had our fill of,' Simon sang.

'Maybe I never loved you / Maybe I always will.'

The Daily Mail has reached out to both of their reps for comment but did not immediately hear back. 

The seventies sensation famously penned her 1972 number one hit, You're So Vain, about three men – including former lover Warren Beatty: 'You probably think this song is about you.'

Back in 2015, Simon revealed she still loved the Fire and Rain singer 'so much' even though they hadn't spoken in over a decade.

'I still want to heal him, I still want to make him all right. And I love him so much,' the Oscar-winning songwriter told People.

'My incredible loyalty to him, in spite of the fact that he has treated me without any regard, has been so painful to me for so long.'

Simon then admitted of his heroin addiction: 'If it hadn't been the drugs, if the demons that were in him went someplace other than drugs, it would have been something other than drugs that would have been difficult to live with I think too.'

The Let the River Run hitmaker wrote and recorded her first album of original songs in 18 years at the same Martha's Vineyard home she once shared with Taylor. 

Meanwhile, the six-time Grammy winner has been married to his third wife Caroline 'Kim' Smedvig since 2001, and they share 25-year-old twin sons Rufus and Henry.

Taylor constantly tours and is next scheduled to perform August 30, September 1 and September 2 at Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia.

Simon, who's reportedly dating surgeon Richard Koehler, was married to businessman James Hart between 1987-2007.

The Golden Globe-winning songwriter also loved and left the likes of Jack Nicholson, Mick Jagger, John Travolta and Cat Stevens.

On July 27, Simon announced that she had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease after discovering mobility issues and she also underwent surgery for basal cell carcinoma on her face.

'It is difficult, frustrating, and sometimes frightening. I am still learning how to live with it and how to accept it without feeling that I have surrendered something essential,' the Nobody Does It Better singer wrote.

'These days I move more slowly, I lean on others more than I once did, and I have learned to accept that every day will look a little different. But I am still very much here.'

Simon previously underwent a mastectomy, chemotherapy and reconstructive surgery for breast cancer between 1997-1998.

The NY Times-bestselling author hasn't appeared in public since she performed at the 31st Annual Tibet House US Benefit Concert & Gala at Carnegie Hall in New York City in 2018.

Simon has influenced younger singers like Taylor Swift, Tori Amos, Carly Rae Jepsen, Sara Bareilles and Natalie Maines.

The Howl singer, who's sold over 50 million records worldwide, was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022.

Simon, who got her start in 1963 performing with her late sister Lucy Simon, also boasts 1.9 million social media followers and pulls 6.8 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
